In this post, we will look at some of the theory and statistics surrounding the Halloween Gambit: Statistics: In a chess vibes video, he talks about the win rates for the halloween gambit - The graph shown below is at the end of the video (They are lichess ratings). For all ratings, the win rates were near 50%, peaking at 55% for 1600 lichess.org or about 1250 chess.com (both blitz). You can compare ratings here Theory In the halloween gambit, two moves (Nc6 and Ng6) are played most of the time. However, here are some sidelines, played around 5-10% of the time. The two main lines: Nc6 Ng6 For more analysis, you can watch this video (I did not copy his analysis expect for picking the move Qf3 over Bc4) Conclusion The halloween gambit is unsound, but playable. Feel free to post good games you have in the opening in the forum We will have a Halloween Gambit tournament with prizes, starting on Halloween. Good luck!

In chess, pins can be very annoying. They often lead to pieces being lost, or leave players with an unpleasant position where they can't move pieces. However, if the pinning piece is undefended, it is vulnerable to discovered attacks. For example - In this game, Lasker played very aggressively through the opening and even sacrificed a piece to take advantage of the pin - and there is no way for black to defend the knight. But there is a problem - white has a nasty discovered attack. See if you can find it: From the Woodpecker method In the game, Lasker's opponent tried a different discovery - If you have any good examples of games with similar examples, feel free to put them in the comments. Good luck finding discovered attacks and pins in your games!

Hello guys! When I prepare some openings and strategy for my students almost everyone tell me: "I need to attack!". Children love tactics, very fast attack and glorious victory. Yes, that is true. Almost everyone enojoy quick victory with some combinations like in Shirov's or Tal's games. Because of that many students think that when you attack you have to go forward. When I create some examples they always looking for such a moves, when they go forward - for example go from rank number 4 to rank number 6 when they play as white. Be careful. When you attack sometimes you have to prepare counterplay and go backward and then push. Have a look! We have much more examples linked to this idea. I prepare three and I hope you now understand, that sometimes if you want to go forward you have to first go back! We will soon be starting a new event in this club. The ladder competition! The ladder is a competition where you play 3-day unrated games with others to get to the top of a leaderboard. You can challenge someone up to 3 places higher on the ladder to a 3-day unrated daily game and if the challenger wins, they swap positions on the ladder. If the challenger loses or if there is a draw, no change occurs. Also, the challenger wins if the challenge is not accepted in less than 5 days. Since it is unrated, you are forced to accept. First though, we will have a tournament to decide the original positions in the ladder. https://www.chess.com/tournament/super-chess-masters-ladder-competition-positional-tournament If you want to join the ladder, enter the tournament above. You will also be invited via messages (https://www.chess.com/messages) After the tournament, we will have everybody's location on the ladder and you can start challenging. If the tournament has already started by the time you decide to join, you will have to wait until the tournament is over. Then you can join the ladder but you will start at the bottom. So JOIN NOW!!! Good luck!
