I could not find a topic where people could post their Team Alberta games so I am going to start a new topic.

Teammates, the next season of USTCL will start in July. We remain in Div. 3, which is perfectly acceptable. Thank you to all that play each month. The first challenge will go out in early July with a game start day of July 14. Enjoy another season!

Members, We have started our final round matches for the 2022-2023 season. As you know we struggled to get the min 9 players in some of our rounds this year. It is also clear that some people have indicated that they don’t want to continue playing in this event. We are very likely going to finish last and with that comes demotion to Div. 3. In Div. 3 the min players number is 6. We are no longer competitive in Div. 2 and so the demotion is welcomed. However, do we even still want to continue? I need to hear whether or not we have sufficient interest or we need to let the USTCL league know that we are pulling out. Please provide your thoughts and indicate if you wish to continue playing or not. I need to know over the next few weeks what we plan to do so USTCL are notified with sufficient notice. I know there are lots of game options out there but this is the only event that we have subscribed to with Team Alberta. Thank you for your opinions.

Short note to say thank you for joining Alberta ChessNuts. I have never led a group before being relatively new to Chess.com myself. However, I enjoy setting things like this up and managing them. I have ran OTB tournaments in Calgary and am/have been a TD/TM on FICS, IECC and WCCF. My goal is to provide a group that has fun competing against others while still being part of the bigger Team Canada. If you have suggestions on what you would like to do or see happen, by all means post them for us all to see. Cheers!

The next season will begin in Aug. Usually it is July but it has been postponed 1 month due to some late games that will affect the promotions/relegations between divisions

Hi everyone. I recently moved to Red Deer and I'm hoping to start a weekly chess meetup for players in the area. I had in mind something pretty informal to begin with: perhaps players could bring their own sets and meet at a coffee shop to play casual games. I started a group like this in Vancouver and it got to be pretty successful. I know that some players currently meet Monday evenings at Dawe library from 5-6pm, so perhaps we could expand on that. Please message me and/or join my new chess.com club if you live in the Red Deer area and would be interested in meeting up for some action over-the-board. https://www.chess.com/club/red-deer-county-chess

Here are the rules for USTCL: US Chess League State Competition Season 2017 Division 3 Spirit: The US Chess League is an interstate competition between teams representing the 50 States of the US. 29 States are entering the competition this year. While every team is encouraged to motivate their teams to do their best, the League also intends to help teams to grow in size and become more active drawing from players in their state. As teams use different criteria in terms of membership eligibility, admins are asked to inform their teams about the nature of the competition and discourage members with no-state ties from joining matches for this competition. We have never had issues in the past so we are confident that this won't be any different this year. In case of disputes or questions, contact the admin of your opposing team first then the Chess League admins rather than commenting publicly. Rules and Regulations: 1. Length of Season 7 (2017): 1 year 2. Format 9 Rd Round Robin. One team each round will have a bye which will count as a win. 3. Start Date: July 14th 4. Minimum number of players per team: six (3). No maximum number of players. 5. Rating Range: Open 6. Time: 3 days/move, Games to be played concurrently (i.e. change default setting from "1" to "2", see here how to do it.) 7. Prizes: Trophies for places 1 thru 3. 8. Player eligibility: All admins understand that this is a competition between players of the respective states and adhere to the common sense principles of such a competition. A player can only play for one team throughout a season regardless of division. Once he plays for a team he has to stay with that team throughout the season. 9. The first place team will be promoted to Division 2. 10. Tiebreaker will be head-to-head results, and then aggregate match points. 11. Teams may not remove players from their roster to obtain a more favorable matchup.Team admins may remove players from their roster who exceed a timeout ratio of 25%. Removed players need to be published in the team match thread prior to commencement of match. Example: “Player A was removed in accordance with timeout rule: Timeout ratio 55%.” 12. Match scores will be finalized after taking into consideration the account closures of members due to cheating. This will occur prior to announcing the final standings. 13. Teams are encouraged to use the AutoStart features when issuing the challenge. When using the feature, set the start time to 7PM PT of the day shown on the schedule. 14. Warnings and Penalties: see here Teams:
