I cannot remember how many chess games i have played but there is one fact i'm certain about... i have lost more games playing with white than playing with black. I admit that there are a lot of great openings for white but there are just as many counters and it's not easy defending a counter attack as white. Does anyone agree that using white is difficult, or is there some skill that must be mastered.... or better still should i always insist on using black.

There are thousands of forums online debating what the best chess opening is. Everyone seems to have a favorite. I seem to change my mind about this all the time but my opening of the month is the English Opening. I find that it sets up my bishops very early and I like my bishops. What's yours?

I admit that I'm a sucker for bad jokes, I will laugh at anything even when the person telling the joke doesn't think it's funny. I took it upon myself to comb the internet for chess jokes and I was suprised at how many bad jokes I found. In fairness some of them were good but don't get me started on the rest. I'm going to post a few of the good ones and a lot of the bad ones on this forum. Anyone can share their jokes too. Let's see if chess players have any sense of humour.

Hello team Ghana, was wondering if we could each annotate our games for this team match when its over and get some analysis from a higher rated player who will point out parts of the game we need improvements on and some tips. What do we think?

Happy new year all' Follow this link to view our results and standings for the 2014 world league. http://chessleagues.com/2014/wl/f/ We have much to improve but we didn't do too bad either. If you have any comments, suggestions or ideas about how to improve our standings in the upcoming 2015 league, please leave your comments below. Best Regards Nana
Message from Daws74 -World league director: Happy New Year everyone! The 2014 season of the World League will be getting underway shortly. A few changes/reminders for everyone to be aware of: All matches will be scheduled to autostart on the scheduled dates. The top 3 divisions will remain 10 teams and a round robin format, the bottom 3 divisions will have 20+ teams and a 9 round swiss system format. Players are only allowed to play official World League matches for 1 team each season and will now have their match scores adjusted if they violate this rule multiple times. All closed accounts will continue to be included in the adjustments to the final team match scores. Here are the divisions based on the WL2013 standings as of Jan 1, 2014. Please note that these are not the final standings for the 2013 season, just the interim standings used for setting the divisions this season. Final standings for 2013 will be announced when all matches have a decisive result. A couple notes on the divisions: Some teams were shifted between divisions in order to meet the minimum number of player requirements. New teams were placed into divisions based on the best current estimation of their strength. There is currently an odd number of teams in Division F, so a new team may be added to balance the schedule.
Re-evaluating all of Team Ghana's matches, you will notice that most of the team matches we lost was because of TIME OUTS (Sometimes painfull in games we almost won). I am as guilty as the next person, but I soon realised that this could be avoided. I also noticed that some players who used to time out a lot aren't anymore. It may seem that some players have found a way to beat the time out. This forum is just to share tips on how to beat the time out. Chess is a beautiful game and I enjoy playing it but not as much as I enjoy winning (on occassion). Best regards everyone

Admin guys....when should we expect to register for a team match?.....lets get active and start kicking some........hmmmm
The number of members on team Ghana is growing slowly, however most of our highly rated players especially >1800 are inactive and don't often take part in team matches. This is not good for our world league rating because most of the teams we play against have players >1800. I suggest that until we have more highly rated active players, we should limit the ratings of some team challenges to <1600 or <1800 and only accept challenges with the same limitation. I think this way, we can win more group matches. I need to know how many players agree and if anyone has any other suggestions.

Hi, I'm not an admin of this group. I think it would help if we keep playing frequent games against other groups to improve our teamwork. I know only few of us are online regularly. So I suggest we play with fewer team members, say 3-5. At least that way we show some activity here... Come on folks!!!
