Hi guys, in an effort to make our team a stronger one, I am introducting a new system. Here is how it works: People who volunteer will become mentors - I will post their names. The goal is to have two people, (mentor/student) play a game, then the mentor takes a day or two to analyze the game, and explain all the tactics and concepts that the student does not yet fully understand. The goal is to have a 200-400 rating points difference between the players, ensuring that the student will learn some useful things, making him a better player. I'll be glad to help out anyone under 1450. In return for this free service, the student will have to accept any mentoring challanges by lower rated players. I like mine sweeper. The one BIGGEST hint that'll make you pwn at mine sweeper is...AWESOMNESS! First you make a buncha wild guesses, till' you get the big thing that gives you a buncha stuff. Heres the thing. Each number has that many mines surrounding it(diagnol counts). So lets say theres a 5, theres 5 mines cover it. If there is a 1 with one space that hasn't been touched yet, and the other spaces are NOT mines, then that untouched space is a mine. Right click to make flags(press it twice more to change your mind). Flags are notes telling you that it's a mine. The goal of the game is to win. To do this, you must have no empty spaces but the mines. K?

So I'm new to this group...I get on here and look at this forum, and there is NO ACTIVITY WHATSOEVER. With the exception of a 2 day old post, the others are like 4 and 5 months! Where's everyone at? What's up with this group!

I finally clicked on the blue question mark at the top right hand corner of this "post a message box" (dunno what to call it ) and skimmed through the help topics Then I saw this: Class: This would normally allow you to apply a CSS style, but this feature is not enabled. Yeah...it may have been the sleepy me taking over, but I thought it was pretty funny earlier lol (5 AM >.<)

I am playing a game against a stronger opponent, and I am winning. I have three passed pawns, two of which are advancing against my opponent's one remaining piece (a rook), his king is cut off by one of my rooks, my other rook is supporting the advancing pawns, and my opponent is 8 points in the hole. All in all, the game is lost for him. I asked him to resign because it became obvious that, by moving as little as possible, he was stalling the game (likely hoping I will time out). At first he didn't respond, so I played on for another month. I recently asked him to resign again. This time I pointed out all that I have told you and added that "even a beginner would find it extremely hard to throw this position". He responded by saying it was his right to play until the end, and asked me to stop with all of the useless talk. Here is where my problem is. Do we, as chess players, have a right to play on? I know it is "legal" in chess to do so, but I thought that basic chess etiquette was to resign. Any other thoughts?

So fellow teens... I've discovered a new pet peeve of mine. The players I'm going to call "The Undevelopers." These are the players that do not develop: they only push pawns. And they're really good at it. An example of what I'm talking about: And thats where I resigned. I know theoretically that I should have won since he didn't develop. But by now I've come across numerous of these types, and i always lose! Surely I'm not the only one who's played this type?

I was interested in starting some discussion with regards to the World Cup. Anyone else been keeping tabs on the games?

First thing I would like to point out this is not related to the TM championships or TM League but it is in response to a discussion in there. I have opened up a tournament for up to 32 teams / groups (this could expand if demand was high). I am keeping the rules very simple. 1. No teams with less than 250 will be allowed to register. 2. Teams over 700 will be removed and asked to join the TM League. 3. If you register with less than 700 and go over that before the matches are due to start you will be asked to go register in the TM League. 4. Please be respectful for the other group members in here. 5. When all teams are registered I will work out the average based on the top 5 players ratings to decide which table you will join. 6. When all pairings have been made you will have 7 days to make the challenge. 7. You will then have 3 days to accept. 8. If you have not accepted by the set date you will forfeit the match and be awarded 0 points. 9. Once the team has accepted the challenge you will have 7 days to get a minimum of 15 players into the match and lock. 10. Some people on here are presently 19.75 . Should we kick'em out of the group when they reach 20 or should they stay? Lets take a poll ! This also includes members who are 12.25 who are thinking that they are teens
