Mississauga CC will hold an Opening Themed Tournament starting 2024-02-21.
Hello once again! I hope you are having an awesome week! It's been almost a year since our last online tournament, and so we are going to be hosting four arena tournaments on the 25th, 26th, 31st of December, and Jan 1st. As of now, both tournaments are going to be arena-format 5-minute games. The arena is going to last 90 minutes. You can always pause and take a break in arenas. You don't have to play chess for 90 minutes straight if you choose not to. The overall winner of the tournaments will be receiving a trophy from the Mississauga Chess Club! - The Online MCC

For the players in U1400, you don't have to worry about failing to get credits. Because we merged the 2 sections, the players in U1400 might seem like the tournament isn't fair. In regards to that, the credit system is still independent for each section. This means that the highest-ranked U1400 player in the tournament will get first-place for U1400, and so on. The same thing goes for 1400+ players too.

This is an announcement regarding how we will be scoring the tournament. We will give players points by their ranking placement, and not how many points they score in the tournament. 1st - 5 2nd - 3 3rd - 2 4th and lower - 1 If you withdraw from the tournament, you will not score any amount of points. If there are 2 people in 1st place, we will give each of them 5 points. The same goes for 2nd and 3rd. To know your final ranking, as soon as the tournament ends, a pop-up screen will tell you what place you got.

Tournament Credits are prizes. Each credit has no cash value. You can only use them towards your membership fee. For each credit you earn, you are eligible to take $2 off your MCC membership fee. For Non-MCC members, you will be unable to get the prize unless you use your credits to join the Mississauga Chess Club. How would I get a credit? Before you read this section, I suggest you read this topic first: https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/how-long-will-the-tournaments-last After a Tournament Term (2 weeks), the winners of each section will receive 5 credits. Runner-ups will receive 3 credits. 3rd place finishers will receive 2 credits. From 4th-10th place, there is a criteria you have to meet in order to get a credit: - You have to have at least played in 80% of the tournaments, or 8 out of 10. - You have to have at least 8 points. (If you withdraw during a tournament, you will not get any points.) The maximum amount of credits you can use towards your annual membership fee is 30 credits ($60).

As the tournament is now going on for a while, this de-motivates new players to aim for the top spots. In response to this, we will introduce Tournament Terms. Currently, we are in the Tournament Term #1. In each term, there will be 10 tournaments of Rapid and Blitz. There will be 1 tournament of Rapid and Blitz every day of the week excluding Wednesdays and Saturdays. Tournament Term #1 will wrap up after the last tournament on Friday (April 3rd, 2020) Tournament Term #2 will start on Sunday (April 5th, 2020) Good luck!
