I decided to open a thread where we can discuss the finer points of the simul. My current vision for the schedule i 1: 30 Myself and few volunteers showup to make sure everything is set up. 2-2:30 player trickle in grab seats and set up their boards, converse. 2:30 Whistle or airhorn or something blows. I give an overview of the event, and expectations. Rule I am thinking of mentioning is that by the time Lito comes back to you, you will have had to have made a move in response. This is required to keep the time reasonable and their should be ample time with him going around to several games. I will also remind people to ensure their boards are setup correctly, ie kings on the efile. Play begins. Somewhere between 5-5:30 depending on how people are feeling, we stop for a dinner break. 6:30 play resumes. 8:30 hopefully all matches are done and we clean up and are out of there by 9. Does anybody see anything wrong with this?

1. Establish quorum, for now I suggest at least two members of the volunteer squad be present. I would list who that is here but I don't want to use peoples real names on the internet without their permission. 2. Recap last meeting. 3. Discuss simultaneous exhibition planning/marketing strategy. 4. New businesss. 5. Appoint members of the volunteer squad to specific roles, (ie, treasurer, event planner).

First of all I would like to thank everyone that stuck around to discuss the club and potential events going forward. I can't create an attendees list as I still don't know everybody yet, a good problem to have! Item 1: Andrew mentions position of club leader/host should be an elected one. Brandon responds by electing him, Andy seconds the motion. Andrew to assume the role upon Brad's departure. Item 2: Foundry is interested in hosting an event. Andrew followed-up with the manager on duty Tuesday evening regarding this, Thursday evenings was suggested. Andrew suggested to the manager that they should be able to host a bring your own board event without needing our support, but we of course would let our members know it is happening. Support by supplying adjudicators may be considered. Item 3: Several potential events listed, most buy-in was a simultaneous. Need a location, host, date, prizes, and fee structure. Item 4: Official CFC events were met with disdain due to membership fees. Unofficial in house events of similar format however were mentioned as a possibility. Item 5: Andy mentioned hosting unofficial tournaments at his camp. I suggest we repeat discussions like this on a monthly basis. Since this one happened on the third Tuesday of the month, I propose the next one be on Feb. 21st.

Hi everyone, Now that we have an open forum for discussion, I would like to get everyone's opinions on where this club is heading. Do we want to keep things small and intimate, or do we want to be something more official such as being recognized by the Chess Federation of Canada, or somewhere in between? Personally I would like to see more regular players out on Tuesday nights. This would increase the variety of games that are played and reduce the skill gap between players, making it easier to find well suited opponents.
