Genesis 1 King James Version (KJV)

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

That is amazing... thank you for posting!  You would never see that happen today so publicly... so unashamed of God's Word.  And if you did, the news media would edit it out.  Sent chills up my spine.

This is beautiful; even many atheists acknowledge that this seemed appropriate. As Christians, this is even more perfect. I don't know how many here know the history of this reading, but it is cool to hear the details. Most notably was that the astronaut attempts at what to write/say were all sounding "too apologetic" and cliche about "peace on Earth." The astronauts didn't feel that they could think of anything perfect enough for the occasion. Joseph Laitin (one of the astronauts) called his wife and she gave him the idea of reading the first 10 verses of Genesis.

This was such a divine idea if I may say so. Imagine reading "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." except you are orbiting the moon and looking down at earth (and the moon). Elaborating on what @SoulMate333 said: I think this sends chills up most spines. What a historic moment and a great opportunity to spread God's word with so many listening.

I watched it on TV when it happened and thought it was great.

I am sure this was a moment that everyone remembers what they were doing and where they were when this event was televised

I remember watching lots of rocket and space shuttle launches... they were often broadcast.

wsswan

They brought TVs to our classrooms to watch the Mercury launches.

SoulMate333

They did that for us during the first Shuttle launch.

I just wonder what these men were thinking as they just floated out to the moon for three days. Seriously brave men!

Thank you for sharing Mainframe!
