Automatic text translation

This can apply to all chats.

To make sure that everyone can participate in all discussions, no matter the language, I suggest adding a auto-translation feature to all messages which will translate the message to the client's language. This would save everyone a lot of time, as the current best way of understanding something is by copying it and pasting it into a translator.

Using google or something equivalent to auto-translate is not a good idea. It does not work across all languages (for example, auto-translating Japanese is notoriously inaccurate because of some aspects of the language that trip up even the best AI/translation apps).

Even for western languages, which tend to do better with auto-translation, it's not perfect.

Since this is a chess website, I personally wouldn't like to see chess.com waste time on setting this up. The functionality exists already through apps or browser plug-ins (if you haven't found a way to do this more quickly than cutting and pasting in to another webpage, you haven't looked hard enough for a solution IMHO)....

That would be good but the translation could have many mistakes. If anyone gets the wrong thing it could cause a HUGE arguement. Many language use prefix for opposites and a small mistake could make a positive point bad and make appreciation critiscisation. It is very expensive and takes a lot of data but you could use a google/safari your browser extension. Or you could take the few seconds and translate. A good point though

What is very expensive and takes a lot of data?

True, I am sure that someone out there has already made a tampermonkey script or a chrome extension for this.

Yes, it's a common problem and has already been solved with browser extensions... sort of. Even the best auto translate solutions don't work all that well (and, as I mentioned, with some Asian languages especially these translation engines fail in spectacular (often hilarious) ways), chess.com can't wave a magic wand and just solve the 'getting computers to automatically and accurately translate' problem.

If chess.com won't wave their magic wand, I will. happy.png
