missed wins are worse

they often are given to positions that are less than ±1

so not winning, just slightly better (if the moves are found)

so the word win was sometimes inaccurately used

miss is (objectively) better as it is more correct

Back when it was first brought up, it was mentioned that there was additional coding work needed, from a different dev group, to get that update.

Apparently that's still needed.

I *think* s/he meant in terms of an indicator to the user when reviewing a game.

I certainly found t he missed win category more useful. Taking it as any move that was missed that was game changing, from and M1 to, say, a +5 advantage.

'Miss' is a lot more wide-ranging it seems to me.

your just saying that because your used to it. misses are better because they make more sense. With a miss if you lose a chance to win material or be in a winning position it is classified as a miss. With missed wins if you missed an opportunity to be +5 then it is a missed win, but missing mate in 1 is not classified as a missed win

I don't particularly like the concept of miss. White or black could be up 30 points of material, but because they missed a mate in one, it would be a miss. That makes no sense since they are still definitely winning. Missed wins show a win/winning position that you missed and show up less frequently than miss does. Miss shows up every almost game and sometimes, it doesn't even make sense. Most misses are just inaccuracies, and missed win is a dead miss. My point is, missed hits every little speck of misses, but missed wins show if you missed a dead win. I don't need to know if I accidentally gave up a +0.8 position, I want to know if I gave up a +6-10 position. (or maybe you can add a feature that shows how big of a miss you did like did you miss a +0.4 or +7 idk just my opinion)

Along the lines of my thinking.

Some good points being made in this thread if you ignore the bickering.

I'm a relative noob and and low rated player. It occurs to me that the more simple 'missed win' may appeal to me more because a 'miss' is often too nuanced.

So much so I've seen titled players on stream who are 3 or 4 times my rating struggle to understand why moves are a classified a 'miss'.

Perhaps the solution would be to insert the 'miss' category and retain the 'missed win' for the very obvious game-changing chances that went unseen.

This would be true except for one thing

misses just seem to replace a lot of blunders and mistakes

White or black could be up 30 points of material, but because they missed a mate in one, it would be a miss. That makes no sense since they are still definitely winning.” missed wins do the exact same thing, they just don’t include as many of what were originally mistakes and blunders. They were still as pointless as misses are. Missed wins often didn’t spoil a position, it’s usually missing a mate in like 10 while still having a +10 position (as white), which again is pointless

but yeah it’s a good point that it’d be great to have missed (or missed wins) only be the actually important things instead of every tiny ‘you could’ve mated in 8 but it’s only +20’

No I didn't?

Even if I did why would this have been necessary to say? I was simply pointing out that @smolToad's comment didn't make sense.
