How long do leagues last? No demotions and no resets will just break the system

If there are no demotions, leagues will come to a point where there are more players in higher divisions than those in wood or stone, and it will become more and more difficult to advance to next level due to low number of active players in leagues (which does not even begin with fewer than 50 players). I know this is not a point yet, but has this issue been discussed before?

because demotions will be affected when people take a break

Pretty sure there'll never be a lack of people for lower leagues.

The division participants in a league are re-selected weekly from the x million members. No demotions are required. One will just stay at that division indefinitely if not active enough to qualify for the next tier.

The time left can be found on the division page:

The division page can be reached from the side panel on one's home page https://www.chess.com/home :

The number of top players in a division that advance to the next division decreases as one advances to the next division.

Elite this week has 414 players:

This would be a problem if new people didn't join. But new people will constantly be joining. However, over time, higher divisions will become more and more meaningless (if they even have any meaning after the competition is done)

he is somewhat correct about demotions, bronze has the most players and too many will advance and next week another catagory will have most players

also i think if you reach x points in a legue u automatically go up because of this https://www.chess.com/leagues/elite/2QRLtag5U

the common chess . com player might play with around 100 games per week

this is just insane even if all 100 games were rapid wins and most elite leagues right now need 3000+ points to advance?????????????? impossible for most people

It's supposed to be competitive, if you only needed a certain number of points then it's not competitive.

robo008

but 3000 points is insane

Not really though

Those points didn't just appear, they were earned through two days of effort, in theory they could have more

Yes, it's a site feature. The contest was a way to promote it.

Players that make it to Legend will eventually have access to other events and prizes

What I would like is after the winners of the player’s league have won their prizes, demotion spots to be installed. This would move people up and down, and make it more interesting. It would encourage people to play more games as well.

  1. How many more do we need for it to start?
  2. Is there only cash prizes? No memberships?
  3. Is this related to verified players?
  4. Will there be free membership when reached legend?

Asking

  1. The site is deciding what to do
  2. I don't know for sure. Maybe a mix, depending on the events?
  3. Not related to verifed at all.
  4. No. There is no award for reaching legend, certainly not a membership.

We're already starting to see it though.

Wood & Stone combined literally have the same amount as Bronze and Elite by themselves. Eventually if resets (in Seasons) don't happen, Leagues will just be a joke.
