Known problems, which club redesign should solve

The admins should have the opportunity to make the club-infopage as a startpage for the members. That is where you put the information you want them to know. And not with an extra dropdown to activate the extra information there (more). They have to click extra for that, why?

Why do we lose all the space at the informationpage on the left side?
Before we could use all the space, now a total block on the left side stays blank because of the clublogo on top? makes us lose a lot of space!

Made me change startpages in club(s) and League to get the information back in a readable way...

Thought, this is already part of the list:

B1 1. Private descriptions are mostly destroyed and need to be restored.

B Difficulties for Leagues (introduced through redesign)

  1. General remark: Clubs, their admins and leagues are already and for long time facing several severe problems caused by Chess.com. Club redesign reinforces the tendency of weakening clubs, e.g. by discouraging club admins and confusing club members. During 2023 there is already a reduced activity in many clubs, which are usually participating in Leagues: Club redesign fuels this process by introducing the above listed additional difficulties for club admins and members.
  2. Reducing space of private descriptions for adding current and upcoming events to all clubs doesn't really make sense: In the past private descriptions were used in leagues to allow club admins an easy navigation, while they only exceptionally have current or upcoming events themselves. Their useful information is hidden to show most likely two empty boxes.
  3. Suppressing TOP Player list (based on daily ratings) and modifying Highest Rating list from daily ratings to some funny mix interferes with ongoing tournaments and mix up chances in favor of the club, which can field more players with less admin activities. Results are likely to be much more impacted by the coincidence, in which round two clubs are paired (for reasons introduced by Chess.com and independent from all participating clubs and the league as well.
  4. Making access to vote chess games more difficult for club members will also impact results in vote chess leagues as it most likely will reduce the level of active participation. As club members are used to spend regularly a lot of time with their vote chess games (and this over months for each of them), this will surely mix up chances of clubs.

Soon, we are going to remember your last selection so that every time you visit the page it will default to what you looked at last time.

List for "Daily 960" is likely to be added soon.

Looks like a very useful extension of this feature: Have updated comment #1 accordingly.

Until now: No update today. As week end is in sight, around and about club redesign probably the only good news this week are having the "Highest Ratings" daily chess list back and seeing club events shown public again. That's not very much and surely not enough.

After ten weeks of "post development process" club redesign still provides a long list of newly introduced difficulties (18) and just very few introduced advantages (5).

  • Still can't see a few new features: After seven months one should assume seeing several.
  • Still don't see any of our major problems addressed ..., which should be solved already.
  • Still don't get answers to any kind of general questions ..., like these five ones.

Would like to see (at least) three examples of instructions in current tickets which

  • are based on our feedback about problems for clubs, their admins and leagues,
  • are related to something other than fixing, what has been broken with redesign and
  • will create a better situation than the previous one with the good, old club design.

Seen, what we've gotten until now, I'm no longer sure, if there is much more work in progress than fixing, what has been broken by the project itself.

Would also like to get finally some general information, what was and is intended to achieve with this project ... How will it make situation of clubs better? How will it reduce the negative impact on our clubs caused e.g. by unreliable notifications, inappropriate communication conditions, uncompleted work like for Multi Club Arenas, long lasting deteriorations as for vote chess games or intentionally introduced difficulties like voided home pages?

They are not going to roll back and reintroduce the old design. The most constructive we can do is to report bugs and discuss/suggest tweaks and improvements to the new design.

Don't think, that we can do something relevant to better our situation, which isn't correct anymore already for a long time. It's really time for Chess.com to wake up and to understand, that they're creating more and more problems for clubs, their admins and leagues.

The most constructive Chess.com can do, is finally starting working on our main problems (referring to comment #2): Without seeing them doing this, many clubs will continue weakening week by week and one admin after another will stop running clubs actively.

I'm afraid nothing more is intended to do, than fixing some of those things, which have been broken by the project itself, which will end in situation worse than before. Looks, that our activities are quite unimportant for Chess.com and they aren't willing to better our situation.

It is still possible to ban, just different, do it this way:

Click Members > Manage members:

Then you can ban:

VirtualKnightJoakim

But is appears that we lost the list of all members banned and the ability to un-ban? Hopefully, that would be in the works.

Tournamentix

@VirtualKnightJoakim: Well, there is a lot of confusion these days.

Comment #2 in the linked forum above mentions, that the "banned member" list still is, where it always been ... and there you can still unban. Just checked this:

There are lot of relevant problems: Why posting about things, which aren't a problem at all?

VirtualKnightJoakim

Got you. I never used that navigation to banned members before:

I would like to see "Reason for ban" here:

Kookaburrra

See how something which was simple is now confusing. I banned someone yesterday from the member list and thought I couldn’t give a reason anymore. And complained in our admin club about it. No one said anything because no one knew. So I didn’t give a reason.

VirtualKnightJoakim

The field ("ban Reason") still shows. What you put in is available to view in the Audit Log.

Kookaburrra

I know now. I didn’t know yesterday where it is. Thought it was gone. Just another thing gone.

Let's guess: @jdcannon

  1. has not reviewed the forum yet. (:zzz)
  2. has reviewed the forum and has forgotten to share his impressions with us. (:/)
  3. has reviewed the forum and is searching for some appropriate words. (thinker)
  4. has prepared an answer, which he cannot find back: Too many tickets everywhere. (exploding_head)
  5. is actually writing and will post soon. (smart)

I belive @jdcannon has posted in the other duplicate fourm?

@VirtualKnightJoakim: Yes, @jdcannon post in different forums with different topics. Here he has let us know, that he will review closely the description in comment #1.

Comment #1 contains a list of problems, which should be solved with club redesign, difficulties, which are introduced with club redesign and a few ameliorations, which could be identified. Would be great to get a general statement, which parts of this will be addressed.

In the "Today's situation" forum, he let us know, that he "take(s) responsibility for these clubs related issues" (forum is referring to my latest blog post, which mentions notifications, club communication, Multi Club Arenas, vote chess, players' home pages and club redesign). That's surely good to know. Would be better to know, which ones of these issues will be solved first and how many before the end of 2023.
