As reported in New York Observer, Playboy now has first serial rights to Vladimir Nabokov's last unfinished novella titled The Original of Laura.  Previously, the rights were held by Nabokov's son Dmitri who was not selling the rights.  Earlier this year Dmitri reconsidered and hired agent Andrew Wylie to find a publisher.  At first Wylie ignored Playboy's pursuits for the work and sent the novella to The New Yorker who passed on the piece.  Playboy then wooed Wylie with orchids (a reference from Nabokov's book Ada) and an undisclosed amount of money.
A 5000-word excerpt from the work will appear in the December issue of Playboy which will hit stands on November 10.  Knopf will be publishing the book itself which will hit stores a week later.
