New Piece Suggestion: Wazir-Bishop

Sort:
Green_Sleeves

The title says it all. I think it would be cool to add a wazir-bishop hybrid piece. The main perk behind this would be that you would basically end up with a bishop that could switch from being light square to dark square and back at will. It would be a weaker version of a queen, essentially.

To CGAs and Variants players: does this sound like a good idea? Would it be hard to make/code? I don't know what this piece would be called, but it could look something along these lines, graphically.

That does seem cool, and has some WoF ideas I’m brainstorming rn (like walking through a maze), although it’s not an already widely known fairy piece.

I do wonder what the Neo design for this would be like, your proposed design follows Standard’s trend of illustrating how pieces move by combining designs which I think is a cool addition to this post happy.png

TheUltraTrap

Name: Gold runner

Why?: Because there is a variant(Bolwerk 178) where this piece exists and it's called gold runner.

Runner also does nicely with bishop. Ask @Runner grin.png

Chessvariant2019

I find it quite similar to Missionary

TheUltraTrap

we could call it Dragon Horse but thats confusing bc we already have a dragon bishop that is more similar to a horse than this...

JkCheeseChess

then what about ferz rook

TheUltraTrap

that isnt as useful ig bc the rook already has the color-changing feature

JkCheeseChess

well obviously when you have one piece you need the exact opposite of that piece

Green_Sleeves

I had actually already considered a ferz rook, and then thought it wouldn’t be that helpful because of what @TheUltraTrap said. Of course, if you guys wanted to add that piece too, that would be fine.

Then add diagonal-orthogonal Chinese Horse

Bishop+Wazir was already created by Japanese in the 13th-14th century. Its name is 竜馬/ryūma, which means Dragon Horse.
