I've played a bit of shogi, but not xiangqi.

Conceptually, I think shogi might be better. I really enjoy the drops. They really make the game distinctive and interesting, and basically eliminate draws.

Love Shogi! Never got very good at it, tho'. Don't know the other. Where can one play it?

Xiangqi is Chinese Chess, it’s more popular than (international) Chess in a lot of places in the country so I think a quick search can get some results

Cool. Thanks. You look a lot like Cheese Duck. :-)

I'm glad you like Xiangqi (^_^), but I think maybe it's difficult to define "better", what should we evaluate from? Complexity, style, or fun?

For Chess players, Xiangqi may be more approachable as the "drop rule" of Shogi is too rare and special, which is also the charm of Shogi.

Thinking of one type of game as being superior to others limits the scope of our appreciation for strategic games. Versatility is a great skill. While we're at it I also recommend go (baduk).

Shogi is too difficult for me, It has "too many" rules. But for me the winner is actually Janggi, which is korea's variant of Xiangqi, because It is actually easier but more fun and the pieces are slightly more powerful.

Pls hit me up if you (anyone) would like to play Xiangqi and janggi by correspondence, every app i found is for rapid games but i would rather play daily games so i can think as slowly as i want since I am learning

Cheers!
