you lose .1 seconds per premove you make
Premoving

Premoves cost 0.1 seconds so that games can't go on forever if they don't have increment.
As for it taking 1 second, that's just lag

I do know that the system for how much time is taken off works off of how much time it takes for the move to reach the server, so that might have something to do with it. (But I am far from being an expert on this matter so...)

Chess.com takes off 0.1 seconds, but other websites such as lichess.org take off none during premove.

Do you mean you hold the piece you want to move and when it's your turn you leave it? If it is the case, this is not real pre-moving, chess.com should implement real pre-moving, for example you put the piece where you wanna move it as if it was you turn, and the move is highlighted to differenciate from other moves. If it's not the case, I cannot premove.

You can do "real" premoves, you just have to turn it on in settings
I know this is probably something that has been talked about before and dismissed but I find that premoving is slightly inaccurate. In the openings when I premove I lose one second everytime I make a move. When my clock is below 20 seconds I only lose 0.1 seconds every move. I was playing a game where the position was completely drawn. So for 20 seconds I premoved but every time I did that I lost 0.1 seconds; I eventually lost on time because my opponent had slightly more time. Could you someone please specify what premoving is designed for because I thought that it was so you could move without using any time. Here is the very frustrating game that I played: https://www.chess.com/live/game/4653718367
