Question about royal pieces in game edit mode

One deficiency I noticed about the editor, is that you can make any piece royal but kings must always be royal, since there is no option for degrading a king to a mann, hence there's no way to create a deathmatch game which would be very fun.

Also, it seems that there's no way to add more than one royal piece per side, unless that I haven't experimented enough with the fen editing part, this is straight forward in many fairy engines.

For the more than one royal part, that's not a thing that you can do since it would cause too many complications. For the first part about kings being royal, I never actually tried anything with it. I'll see if there's a fix or if it's meant to be like that.

1. It is possible to make any piece royal, even if kings are on the board.

2. Having no royal piece is a bit more complicated: if there are no kings, then it's quite easy, but if there are kings you would have to come up with starting mechanics as to get rid of royal aspect: you can make kings fully inaccessible for all pieces and add BPR, or if your board size limits are tighter, add a wall promotion, with both options combined should be sufficient for the majority of cases.

than why don't to do that Kings are not royal by default?

After if you whant a royal king than you do the same as with others pieces.

Option 1 is self explanatory of how to make a FIDE deathmatch. If it's true that any piece can be royal and that kings royalty is transfered, then you can add some rows with walls and make two of those bricks royal (far enough to not be attacked by any knight or other jumper).

On the engine side, may be. On player side not necessarily, no more than 2 pieces in check simultaneously and game ends with last royal checkmated is a pretty sane standard. Then it's just two options to add to the rules editor: No more than N pieces in check at a time and game is lost after N checkmated pieces.

They probably don't have this as a default option for beginning creators in Custom Variants. These people might expect the king to be royal by default, and not know about the option to set royals, which is also under the advanced options. Therefore, they could potentially create a game where kings aren't royal when they should be, confusing the variant creator.

Than i have an other idea: make the king unroyal by clicking on it with the "set royal pieces" option.

Make a functionality with "set royals pieces" who allow you to make a royal piece not-royal by clicking a second time on it.

Put a piece surrounded by bricks to isolate it then royal the isolated piece

Under edit position, tap more settings. Then the first option should be set royals.
