cool idea think it's a really good
Suggestion: Powerup chess

this isn't really the place to add variants that add random aspects from other non-chess-like games to chess because after all, this is chess.com and not chess power up bar.com. again, I like the ideas but not the place. There's a limit before chess becomes a video game rather than a strategic board game

Facts chess itself is the best form of chess. The only variant vaguely similar to chess is Fischer random chess which is great for positional skills.

agreed

Call me a traditionalist, but this idea seems like way too much for a chess variant. I already don't like most variants, and something like this would barely be recognizable as chess. While the idea itself could be a good one for a completely new chess video game, I don't think it belongs on chess.com. Despite my rather harsh criticism, I do think this sort of thing would be enjoyed by many people, and I am very happy that you actually put a lot of thought into this post.

Oh that's probably true, and I see where you're coming from (Although I personally adore almost all variants on this website), but MAN would that modifier be fun. Maybe I'll watch a large number of youtube videos and attempt to take my lackluster coding skills to Scratch.com and code it myself.
Maybe.
Probably not.
I think adding a variant of chess that has a powers system- you get 3 or so random powers, each time you and your opponent make a move, an energy bar fills up. Once it is your turn and you have enough energy, you play the power and enjoy the ability. I've got some ideas also:
Aggressive/attacking powers
These are single use powers that modify the game in a big way. Powers such as
Resurrect-A power that allows you to respawn one of your pieces onto your half of the board
Convert-A power that forces a knight, bishop, or pawn to switch sides.
and my personal favorite, the rocket launcher. Your king gets a nuclear missile with the movements of a queen, that explodes in a plus shape, wiping out any and all pieces in the explosion. Obviously with fun sound effects, of course.
Sabotage power
Not much to explain here, these powers limit opponent movement and use of abilities, or switch around their powers to destroy any plans they had been making.
Effect powers
These powers last until certain conditions are met, or something is played against them to void their effects
Ideas for these powers include
Call of Nature-This power permanently transforms all queens into wildebeests, a terrifying fairy piece that is a combination of queen and knight.
Shield-A power that adds a protective shield over your king, preventing him from dying once, and can stack.
Now I know it would be fairly difficult to implement but it would make chess SO much more interesting (not that it's boring currently) and add a nice splash of chance to your games.
Anyways, that's my idea
