26th June 1941 - 5th September 1944

Finland attacked to Soviet Union with Germany. Finland wanted back areas which she was lost in The Winter War. Attack was stopped in the Karelian Isthmus to old border line, only some ten kilometers from Leningrad. In Ladoga´s Karelia Finnish army went over old border line, from time before The Winter War, to the River Svir, conquered Petroskoi (Petrozadovsk) town and western coast line of Lake Onega as well Isthmus of Maaselkä and Rukajärvi: East Karelia was under Finnish rule.

After two and a half year of trench warfare, Soviet Union started the Counter attack 9th June 1944 in Karelian Isthmus as well in Ladoga´s Karelia with much lesser forces. Because of the threat of military collapse in Karelian Isthmus, Finnish troops in Ladoga´s Karelia was withdraw fast from East Karelia and main part of these troops was send to the Karelian Isthmus. Some troops from East Karelia stayed to the Ladoga´s Karelia, to defence areas which was part of Finland before The Winter War.
