Dear friends and students,

Following repeating suggestions by members, I decided to post here the practice positions from volume 2- Goals and Plans (free download link), for us to solve together.

I'm going to post them at the order in which they appear in the book.

After looking and looking, it seems that White needs to be careful with his queen. Not that it will get trapped but that it will be of no use after all of the trades everywhere on the board. The e5 square is of huge importance. Not only will it fork the LSB and a pinned knight, but the tempo it brings. My first move would be 1...f6! It protects e5 and allows Black the option of playing Kf7. Black might lose the b-pawn but White's entire plan is complete and now there is a lone queen on the the queenside. More to come later.

Magnus- that's the right idea in the position.
