I was one time, and I tried to place the piece to block the check; Another time I was not in check, and tried to place the piece to create a fork with the opponents queen and bishop

Every time I try to place a piece in crazyhouse, a pop-up appears saying "Oops! The move you have made is not a legal move". I've read all the rules, and according to https://www.chess.com/terms/crazyhouse-chess, the only ones that should have any restrictions when placing are pawns. I have tried it both while in check (to block the check) and out of check, but every time the same pop-up occurs.
