What "Good Teammate" Means to You

This thread is for discussing what you value in your teammate, as well as what qualities define you which would help a teammate. This thread is meant to work in tandem with the Find a Teammate thread, so that you can connect with players in the rating range and time zone you're interested in, but also can find players with a personality, play style, or sportsmanship that will make your team succeed!

For me, a good teammate means that he will discuss constantly, mainly with arrows on the board. He will signify what moves he'll make, and get feedback from his teammate. This is what I always do, and the results are fantastic when both teammates do this.

Almost as important is courtesy. Not getting upset at blunders, handling a loss with grace, not swearing, and even being kind after a win rather than gloating. Whenever I play, I make sure to say "gg" at least, and I also apologize when I realize that I made a bad move. I try to be as kind as possible no matter the outcome, and hope for the same in my teammate.

For me, they listen to their teammate to discuss ideas and draw arrows on the board, and not blindly following a higher rated teammate, still pointing their own ideas. And the same applying to the highest rated player, they should answer the lowest rated player's suggestions by showing the refutation on the board or showing there's an even better idea. Unless there is time trouble...

I also like to play variants.

1. Being good enough so I don't end up simuling (happened when I was in a call with a friend who's probably U1000 strength in 2pc...)

2. No swearing, bigotry, etcetera when losing or winning.

3. If higher rated, expecting me to follow everything is a nono...

1. At least 2200+

Seriously, there are too many 1700 players out there that think they know everything and end up blundering two queens or getting mated in 5 moves. Even then, some 2100s don't know how the game works as good as more experienced players. Of course, I am completely willing to play with you if you are willing to comply with my 2nd expectation for a good teammate:

2. Someone who can cooperate well and is good at teamwork.

I like to play with people who have ideas but don't force them upon their teammate. I would rather not have it be a "2500 carries 1800" type of situation in which the 2500 shows moves and the 1800 blindly follows, because where is the fun in that? Also, there could be something that the 2500 missed, which is another downside.

Exacterly I have mated a 1700 players using the fools mate said in a forum but @Greensleves

Not that Greensleves sorry

These are all great thoughts!

By the way, just wanted to remind everyone that this thread will be even more helpful if used in conjunction with the Find a Teammate thread. If you haven’t already, please put yourself on the list, and we can link people’s names to their comments here, so that players can get a feel for their potential teammates.

I don't have a specific time when I come online in, so how can I join that thread

Green_Sleeves

The specific time is optional. You can just do the other information, so that people can get in touch with you and play whenever.

a person who can play in a certain time, not go raging if he loses because of his own mistakes, if I lost my connection to the website, not block me and says mockingly: “he has a stroke someone  call 911”

*definition: cubsrock9

what I really think, is a person who can understand, calculate for 2-3 moves ahead (those are good~average) and a person who can spend there time when they need it, and play quick when needed, and always say “good game”and/or dont go raging if they lose.

thats what I think makes a good teammate, though being a strong player would help a lot.

thanks for making the club Green_Sleeves!

i think a good teammate means:

1. Follows arrows (it is good if you also understand my arrows and give your own)

2. do not give up or resign without agreement

3. be kind, do not swear, spam arrows or blame me for mistakes, everyone makes mistakes
I would be happy to help new players who are enthusiastic about learning more about 4pc
STIVRDK

1) he's not playing too fast

2) draws arrows (his plan)

3) waiting for a response from his teammate whether it's OK to play or not

4) he's not angry at his teammate's mistakes

5) communicates with texts if aarrows cannot explain his plan

6)  even though he thinks his move is better, he listens to his teammate, because he cares about playing with a friendly teammate rather than winning
