What is the best defense in chess

There is no universal best defense in chess as the effectiveness of your defense is based not only on what your opponent plays and how well/skillful they play; but, also on what you play in response and how skillful/well you play. This is also evidenced when the strongest chess players in the world ( computer engines ) play one another

Stop spouting reason! This is the French Defense Fanatics Club, we worship the French to the exclusion of all other inferior openings!

@Rook_Handler LOL!!! That comment was great! Made me laugh when I read it...but of course the French lol !

Dud all openings have their advantages and drawbacks(that’s why chess still hasn’t been “solved” even by engines) but the most effective one is obviously french
french is the best and im very good at it but if you are not carefull and your dumb then you will still win

As French Defence players we have our biases. But I actually really dislike playing the French Defence in blitz/speed chess. I find black's position too cramped and it's difficult to find accurate counter-attacking moves with time pressure... The result if often a crushing kingside attack for white.
I find the French Defence excellent in tournaments or Daily. Masters don't seem to favour it because it gives up a lot of space. ...e5 is probably the most theoretically correct defence.
