I‘m going to be getting a $230 or $240 set (Herman Ohme pieces with a borderless board from Etsy) soon and my cheapest is a $25 from amazon (my tournament set)

I only have one set, a relatively simple one for about $15

I have two. One is a rather large ceramic set. I had to have a custom board made that cost $300. The pieces cost $150. The King is 6 inches tall. It is a beautiful set but not for everyday use. My other set is a tournament set made in India. The pieces are hand carved, and the Knights are beautiful. The board is leather and lays perfectly flat when unrolled. It comes in a nice case that is large enough for two sets. The cost was $260. In addition, I have about 10 other sets. Two of them I can carry in my shirt pocket when I go camping. Many of them I received as gifts. US Chess use to give away a free pocket set when you renewed your membership. Later on they started charging $1 for the set. The last time I saw one, the price had gone to $5.

Yes, I too have a frosted glass set (gift). I taught my two granddaughters how to play on that set. I told them it was a diamond set. They were so amazed and loved playing with it! lol.

I have a very expensive set also. The board is worth $300 and the pieces are worth about $250. I have lifetime warranty on the pieces, which includes loss of pieces.

I didn't pay that much for everything though... That was the market rate. I shopped for days and found some good deals on eBay. If you go to chess.com or USCF website, that is they sell for. See last message for pricing. It is a beautiful wood board and wood chess pieces.

Lost all the 50yo Mexican onyx ones when parent's estate was dissolved, were $20 at time of purchase, but maybe collector's now. Cabinet maker/ex-neighbor left hand-carved oak and walnut one here, but will prolly retrieve soon. They go for about 300.

I don't know what my set is worth but I think it is worth around 50 USD. It was given to me as a gift. It was bought at a shop in China.

I made one of those boards when junior in highschool shop. Very light-colored maple w/ dark Ozark black walnut. End grain does not bond well, even w/ best horsehide glue. Lasted many decades, but would have been centuries if had biscuit jointers back then. Think it was exercise on how to cut perfect 1-3/4 squares without injury. Instructor had nickname "Dangerous Don" because was missing fingers on both hands.
