WL2024 Divisions

The 2024 season of the World League will be getting underway shortly.  

A few reminders for everyone to be aware of:

1. As in the last years, we will be strictly enforcing start times. Matches need to have the scheduled start time set, and the required participation needs to have been met by that time so that matches can start automatically at the day and time scheduled for the round.
2. Divisions A, B and C will be played in a round robin format, and divisions D, E and F will be played in a swiss system format.
3. Players are only allowed to play official World League matches for 1 team each season and will have their match scores adjusted if they violate this rule multiple times.
4. All closed accounts will continue to be included in the match score adjustments.

Here are the divisions based on the WL2023 standings as of Jan 1, 2024, which are also shown briefly on the left side of the table below.  Please note that these are not the final standings for the 2023 season, just the interim standings used for setting the divisions this season.  Final standings for 2023 will be announced when all matches have a decisive result.

A couple of notes on the divisions:

1. Eleven teams are joining the World League this season. One in Division C, four in Division E and six in Division F.
2. One team has dropped out of the World League, from Division D.
3. Because of the team joining in DIvision C, there are less promotions from Division D and E this year.
4. Four of the new teams can join in Division E. This allows us to relegate 5 teams from Division E that struggled a lot this season, and it helps us because some of the teams from Division F do not move up due to participation.

So when will the first games start for Group A?

Can you please quickly tell me the exact link to the team you are speaking of, and the list of its admins who will be in charge of organizing the league matches for the team in the World League --- (just as I have writen to you in my direct message now?).

It is very shortly before start of the new season, but we might be able to still include you,

especially if we manage to find yet another team that can join, so that the number of teams in the lowest division would be an even number again.

I am a super admin for Team Haiti. Is there any way to still join? We are a last-minute addition. We are a very weak team and most likely would need to be in Division F.

What division is portugal in? I dont see it

Portugal stopped playing their matches during the last season, and have dropped out of the World League now.

What do you think? Team from a country that with absolutely no valid reason daily kills tens of civilians, destroyed hundreds of villages and tens of cities and displaced millions of people from their homes. I give you one guess...

Mate, this is not the place to teach you something and it seems to me that you might be a waste of time. We played perfectly fine without russia for two years. You can always leave this group and this competition and play along russians.
BTW, as a common sense and due to respect for others, personally I read the main topics of a group after I join it, to get informed of rules and things happening. Also if I have questions, I search for the answers in the forums before asking something in public. You could have easily do this and found the answer, thus spare us with your question... Just common sense mate, use it next time.

I felt annoyed and even a little angry (not at all "super defensive") because of your lack of common sense and due to opening in public this sensitive subject/topic. If it is so difficult for you to search and read the forums, you could have asked Team Spain admins about this (since they are managing your team in this competition and they should know everything about it) instead of posting the question in public to all people from all countries.
I was about not to answer you anymore, because we are in public place and everybody is reading this, but I finally did it because I wanted to point out for others too: "if you have questions for this competition, please ask your Team admins first of all, since they should know very well everything about it".

Yes, South Africa is part of Division D and Chess960 Division E.

Your team admins should be in World League Headquarters and receiving the information necessary for the team's participation.
