Those run by my local chess club. In fact, these are the only ones I participate in with any regularity.
Your favorite non-CCA tournaments

CCA is continental chess association, right?
just clarifying
I assume so. They ran the best online events in 2020. They’ve been running in-person tournaments since the 1960s.

Amateur Team events are great to attend. Also pretty much any state that has an open championship or just a "(state name) open" is going to be good.

The Charlotte Chess Center. Not only do they provide both clocks AND boards to their players(seriously, catch up with the rest of the world CCA), but in my experience their tournament run very smoothly

Most of the tournaments I have attended are at the Mechanics Institute, which is my chess club. I enjoy them. Everything is provided, so all you have to do is show up. My favorite is the Tuesday night marathon, one game weekly for seven or eight weeks. You get to know the players as you see each other weekly. Also, all the games are entered into the database, and the pairings are published the day before so that you can prepare against your opponent. About half of the Tuesday night crowd are "repeat offenders" who have been participating for 10, 15, or more years. Tuesday night marathons have longer time controls, with the total game lasting up to 4 hr. Some games are annotated by IM Elliott Winslow every month and published in our newsletter.
There are also monthly quads based on rating and at least one other monthly tournament, often two. These tournaments are generally with shorter time controls (40 minutes). Some months have a two-day tournament with longer time controls as well.
I also enjoy going to the Chess Festival in Vegas and love the "Thanksgiving" tournament put on by Chess Palace and the biannual Reno tournaments.
I guess I love chess.
I'd like to support the efforts of other hard-working tournament organizers in the US. With this in mind, which are your favorite non-CCA tournaments in the US?
