buying a cheap chess board you get what you pay for or less

i need a an offline setup to learn when i am not on the computer and near wifi
good news is they refunded me fully the price and told me to just keep the unit. don't understand that, but for once, i am ahead of the game i guess. will trade or sell this unit cheaply or maybe even donate it to a local charity cause -- to teach myself a lesson -- ebay is a good place to shop when you know what you are looking for exactly -- i made the mistake and didn't really know what i was looking for -- now i do

i have heard on the internet that chessgo 4xr is a scam trying to raise funds for a system that doesn't even work yet
is that true ?
What other reliable systems are top-notch that you fellows really use that you would recommend, and why doesn't chess.com endorse a system for their members ? i see all the YouTubers want a be's opening up these units and trying them out, but I think they are all sponsored by those chess board companies so who to believe? i can't afford a mistake. Buying one of these 400 to 600 us funds units would set me back quite a lot of food and other necessary things of life. Any help would be greatly appreciated. i looking with in the month of getting one, when my pension check comes in. I am on a hiatus from playing poker, till I get my chess set up, so not losing any money there is actually a good thing. Please advice is really needed - for a sound descent board setup, that has a few bells and whistles to keep Me going towards getting better at chess when off line

May I make a low-tech suggestion?
i often play chess in the park. I bring a roll-up board with plastic or silicon pieces (depends on my mood). I launch the chess.com app and play a bot. You don’t need wifi.
i transpose all the moves from the app to the board and vice versa. It’s nice to be outside. A few times I had a kid play as the computer and move the pieces… I’ve also found some real opponents to play as well.

Great suggestion! I am going to try that too. 👍
bought a new chess board on ebay couple weeks ago and it came in hoping for the best paid over 80 us for it and it looked like a deal -- well I was wrong the "top chess voice chess master game board model 926 - is really a piece of junk -- the screen is so small it can't be read and there is no headphone output for private listening to the voice coach,so the whole house knows how stupid I am at chess and the voice is computer sounding 1980's at best - you can't set up scernios to practice and the whole board and pieces are really dollar store quality made the only good thing about is its really small, so portable, for travel but without headphone output the whole plane or train would hear you get instructions- so useless
I should have known better, and others here warned about the cheapie units to me - so lesson learned. I hope I can get my money back and wait till I save enough for a good 400-dollar board game
