I went to a neighbor's house today to admire this chess set it was made by Pedro Duran, a luxury goods maker in Madrid, Spain. The chess pieces are modeled after those of the medieval courts, and the inlaid box is of walnut, mahogany and satinwood, with a sterling silver swirl decoration in the center and a morion helmet in the corner, held up by four lion's paw feet. The lid flips over to reveal the bottom board and a red velvet interior of ceramic-filled sterling silver chess pieces in the form of a medieval court, one set gilded. Marked with Pedro Durán's "urn". The lid is engraved with a coat of arms, plus "Stirling" and "Pedro Durán".

Lovely - and the board is not overly crowded like on most themed sets.

Thanks, actually, that's one of the things I appreciate the most. It's not only beautifully designed, but it's also very practical. Themed pieces can often feel too complicated, but the design of this set is very visually comfortable and not distracting, making it perfect for long games
