Chess Up 2 board I coming out!

Your posts would be better off on a new topic for Square Off Pro or posted to the old one for the same.

Answer from Jeff Wigh on the Kickstarter page about the need for an app:
For ChessUp 2 - the app will mainly be used as the (1) video/voice player for lessons (2) heavy post-game analysis tools and history (3) establishing credentials/logins
ChessUp 2 will not even need the app for firmware updates as we will just get those over WiFi (we switched this recently).
All game play modes and even some light game review tools are built into ChessUp 2. The app is an optional part of the experience.
So it looks like the Chessup2 will be much along the lines like @TundraMike is predicting.
I posted the link to this thread for Jeff to come visit. Hopefully he will come and join in our discussions.

Hi - this is Jeff Wigh (from ChessUp).
We usually don't intervene in forum discussions - but with this thread I can see people have ChessUp 2 questions and I am happy to pitch in and answer those.
*If you have customer support requests - please use our official support channels (our website playchessup.com or email info "at" bryghtlabs.com). You will get quicker support that way.

Just found this tread - will be so happy when mine comes and think of it as an 'early Christmas present' to myself.
At first I thought the size might be a tad small....but the more I thought of playing online games, the more I though - why the heck would I want to have to reach way across a regular sized board to make my opponents move.
I've played OTB tourneys ever since high school. I love the stylish clean look. I went from a desktop/big monitor to a 16 in laptop a few months ago thinking I could easily go a different room - even upstairs and play when the wife was watching TV, but I haven't done so once. Chessup2 will make that an easy reality.

@Cornfed - you should like the size of the Chessup2. I have the Chessup1 as well and they are the same size, the 1 is very nice size to play with. A bit smaller than full size (which I do not find I have to reach to play on, any more than having to play my R or N on the 8th rank IRL) and a bit larger than a Chessnut Air, fits nicely on a desk, and the pieces have a bit of weight to them.
I am looking forward to the new iteration of Chessup.

@Rsva - Size...it does look to be a bit thinner than Chessup 1 (and that's good). I think the 'playing area' is the exact same size...but (and I may not be recalling correctly) the overall size is slightly different, but inconsequential.
The unit itself does have a more pleasing look than version 1 I must say.
I read somewhere that there has been a very tiny update on the appearance of the pieces...just little touches.

I looked at the Evo....but to pay basically 3x the price of Chessup 2 for what I would be using it for (online opponents via chess.com - chessup 2 looks to be more tightly integrated - and lichess) did not make much sense for me.

Having used it for almost a year now, i think it is quite a good piece of kit.
The large screen allows for easy navigation and it works on more than just this site and Lichess.
I am concerned about the small credit card sized screen on the Chessup2. I am sure I will be able to use it but when I get the board I will be 62 and the eyes ain’t what they used to be. Just bought a 32” screen for my desktop to make it easier to read things.

I will have turned 61 by the time ChessUp2 arrives. Fortunately, I still only need glasses for long distances....and very up close stuff, so I hear ya!
Yes, you can download all sorts of things of use with Evo. For me, I just wanted something to play online in 3D. I use the laptop I am on daily for playing now and all other stuff online. Happy to save the $400 or whatever the difference was given what I want it for.
Similarly, I have a cell phone for phone calls...an occasional txt and being able to take a photo is handy, but that's all I use it for. My wife, on the other hand, would not know what to do without her cell-phone. She can't watch a movie or show or hockey game on TV without having her nose in it. Oh well...
Strange, but as Christmas approaches each year, I've been looking at various dedicated chess computers - nostalgia I guess for the Fidelity Chess Challenger I got for Christmas when I was in High School. Glad I never did now as the Chessup 2 is basically one of those combined with what should be top integration to the chess sites I use daily to play humans online and without the need for an app.

It's getting closer to the ChessUp2 release to the public. Guessing about 8-9 weeks. So looking forward to it.

@ChessUp_2 Jeff is the chessup2 on time? I am anticipating it right after Thanksgiving. I will be using it a lot to practice and learn certain openings.

According to the Indiegogo campaign:
- STATUS: Deliveries in December (1 month behind)
NEXT MONTH: I will update on October 25th. At that date, the first container load of ChessUp 2 should be complete at the factory.
UPDATED SCHEDULE: We had issues with production ramp up. Pilot run is just now completing. We are ~3 weeks behind where we expected, and that pushes us into December for delivery to backers.

I hope the clock display mode will be made available on the web version as well so we have it for all boards
Does anyone know if you “can” use your phone to play on the Chessup 2 as well? For example, there may be some situations where I want to analyze using my phone/tablet while moving the pieces on the board. Also, if for some reason the board is confused/disconnected in the middle of a game, it is always a nice option to take over from your phone/tablet should things go awry.
Cheers
What does it matter where the board is made? I have boards from Chinese companies (Chessnut is one) and they are fine.
Here is the Kickstarter for Chessup, do some research:
