DGT vs House of Staunton Chess Sets

I'm looking to buy a nice wooden tournament chess set and both DGT (non-electronic) and several House of Staunton chess sets (e.g., the Grandmaster one) fit the bill. Does anyone here have experience with both and can chime in on whether one is better than the other in terms of quality?

Thank you in advance.

I can confirm that I have the DGT non electronic board in walnut/maple. Very happy with the board and quality. You would not regret it!

Sorry I can’t comment on the chessmen you listed as I don’t have those.

Thank you. How is the weight of the pieces? I tend to like chessmen with some weight.

The pieces I use are sheesham set from Chess and Bridge. Can’t remember at the moment but they are weighted and very nice. Very detailed knight. Cost £120. I have just received my Zegrab set but I am not sure if I am happy or not. The knights are somewhat different to the photos on the site.

This set costed me about 140$

I would certainly consider the CB version: https://www.chessbazaar.com/offers-zone/backorder/tournament-series-staunton-chess-pieces-with-german-knight-in-sheesham-box-wood-3-king.html

Out of stock so you could try this: https://www.chessbazaar.com/offers-zone/backorder/tournament-series-staunton-chess-pieces-with-german-knight-in-ebonized-boxwood-box-wood-3-king.html or https://www.niggemann.com/en/chessmen-classic-staunton-17532.html or https://www.polishchess.com/german-staunton-acaciaboxwood-chess-pieces-3-75-single-queen-p-1455.html

Hope I could help.

Man I love DGT boards e- and non-e boards.

To partially answer the OPs question, I own a 3.25" version of the HoS Grandmaster series in golden rosewood. I use it on my 14" board and I really like it for analysis. It is very simple and works well for my analysis needs. The quality is reasonable. There were issues with many of the pieces when I received the set from HoS, but as always the HoS customer service department did not fuss too much over replacements. I receive all replacements. It took a few tries before all of the replacement pieces were satisfactory but eventually all were fine. The golden rosewood is more "rough" than say Ebony or African Padauk but it is still fine. I prefer Ebony above all else.

Where do you recommend buying a DGT non-e board from?

They seem to be a bit harder to find.

Thanks

There are a few places. I got mine from Librum games for a good price, however, last time I checked they were out of stock (might be back in now), and there were a few on eBay at the time.

Thank you
