No clue about whether they are ‘original’ or not, but they are beautiful!
Identifying Dubrovnik Chess Pieces
My thoughts(to be taken with a grain of salt) are that there are quite a few very fine sets of this type on the market.....From the looks of your pictures these look as though they have been around for a while and have aged very well....For me,it would be hard to tell if original or a very nicely done repro.
Personally,if I were interested in a Dubrovnik set this one shown would be high on my list.
It's really got that "something" going for it....Good luck.

This looks VERY interesting. It doesn't look like any of the recent Indian made repros to me. Seems to have patina. It looks pretty good! I would consider price. If the price is $300 USD or less, I would buy now ask questions later. Even if it is a repro, if it's not one of the mass produced Indian made repros (don't think it is), it will have some value worth at least a few hundred $$.
I agree that it doesn't look like any of the more commonly seen Indian sets.If you can get it at a price you can live with,I find it hard to believe you'd be disappointed.
Superior looking pieces!
Good luck

Thank you guys for all the input. The seller in fact claimed it was a Jakopovic. However, he asks for 1200€ and since the offer looks kind of shady to me, as he only offers this set and doesn't go by his full name, I will distance myself from the offer.
If anyone is interested anyways:
Gerade bei #eBayKleinanzeigen gefunden. Wie findest du das?

Good that you passed and would encourage others to do the same. Now that I see the picture with the bishop being held I recognize them and this is a scam for sure. These pics get posted over and over again on eBay in the U.S., recently multiple times a week. The auctions get reported and removed.

The same pictures from #1 now reappeared on EbayUK :
Jakopovic original Dubrovnik chess set 1950-1960 very very rare!!!
with the price of 3900 US$ in the description
1 extra picture:

BEWARE: This set is always relisted on eBay, which is then taken down, as the seller always requests communication and payment through a 3rd party URL (against terms of service). It could be a simple payment scam, or multitude of attacks ranging from malware, phishing, et cerera. I typically report each listing stating the above, which gets them taken down in very short order.
What happened with this purchase of yours. Did it go through.
Also I wonder how has the seller quoted a price of 3900 USD for this set. What are the benchmarks for determining the price of an antique sets, seeing that modern reproductions are being sold from anywhere between 100 to 1000 USD.

Hi, it was mine.
This was his set which he had sold for alot over three years ago !
As for the repros, do not even come close to the real Jakopovic chess set s. even the NOJ set falls short . But is the best effort on a modern day take ?
In my opinion this set is wrong. Notice the differences of the Queen designs, for instance. Yes, the wood looks old, but so what?
I would look elsewhere.

Nothing wrong with this set , theses photos have being copy / pasted & posted so many times it a scam, i had kept a copy of the photos of this set when it had came up for for sale , first time around. The seller BMK_51 sold it on ebay , it sold for a very high price around 3 years ago .
it's a real Jakopovic chess set .
Eyechess you are so used to looking at clean tooling chess set + turning made in today market , not Soviet tooling age sets or in this case , Yugoslavia sets which are way more organic .
Hey guys,
I just saw an offer of some chess pieces. For my untrained eye they look like Dubrovniks. However, I noticed some differences to the original 1950s as well as to the reproductions by NOJ. The rooks for example look like the ones from the Minceta set. I also noticed differences in the queens crown.
I am very interested in your thoughts whether or not these are original Dubrovnik chess pieces. Thanks!
