Hello. I am looking to get decent at chess and as such I need a course or something like that to learn it. I did the free parts of the chess course here and at the moment I can't pay for premium. What would you recommend to get good at chess for free?

Trying to improve for free is tough.  I did it for years eventually I got the platinum membership here.  The lessons here are good but not always very in-depth.  Still definitely worth the money imo.

The YouTube channel  ofJohn Bartholomew as mentioned, also Chess Explained.

Jim's Chess channel and GM Huchenbeth.  Also Alexandra Botez, Anna Rudolph all have at least some instructive content but less for the beginner.

The thing is none of these channels have actual courses per se.

Thank you for a serious response!

I ended up receiving a diamond membership for Christmas and I have been doing the lessons there since then. I have also joined a real life course.

I wish they had the internet when I was a kid. What a plethora of information.  One series I have watched and it is pretty good, it is on youtube.  Beginner to Chess Master

Chessable.com has a lot of good free courses with move trainer.

Any of John Bartholomew's series' on YouTube (for example, climbing the rating ladder)

Might I suggest the back yard professor for free instruction and when you get too strong for that I recommend transitioning to paid personalized coaching?   There is also the saint louis chess club and agadmator,  both on youtube (as well as the aforementioned back yard professor) but they are a little political and their content is of lower quality.

You can never get too strong for the BYP wink.png

Haha, that was a joke (I know, I don't have a very good sense of humor)
