I haven't seen any discussion of this huge upset in the Corsica Oscaro Open.

Take a look at this game!

yureesystem

Wow! Incredible beat by a B-player (1600-1799), that doesn't happen to enough.

notmtwain

To be fair, you should mention that it was a 15 minute rapid game.

The weekinchess report has 6 other similar 1000+ point underdog wins.

ChessMN16

Wow, that's incredible!

So I guess you guys are saying I have a shot against Carlsen Tongue Out

e4 wins

learningthemoves

Wow. It happens.

Anyways, it was a rapid game. Would've been more shocking if it was slow standard.

A 15 minute rapid game is no excuse. That's plenty of time.

There is a lot of difference in a 15 minute rapid than a 150+ min standard game.

This is bound to start a plague of ''can a 1300 beat a GM'' type threads, SmyslovFan has openned Pandora's box.

Jion_Wansu

Aren't there threads like that out there already? Don't get me started...

Elubas

Well, at least we know a 1500 player can beat a 2700 player. One cannot imagine how these things happen, but they do. Rapid is certainly not classical, but this is still pretty crazy.

1500 years of chess history, that has to be a first!

Jion_Wansu

The higher rated player just thought that he could win by nt even trying because of rating diffence

Quickforte

Well, the player handling Black must have been embarrased after that loss (ha ha ha).

AceBird

looked like to me the top player was overthinking his moves to be honest. This happens.

TheOldReb

This game smells bad to me ...

Tom_Brady_SB49_Champ

If I tried my hardest I can pretty much beat any GM. The only thing is, is I need an engine. Tongue Out

Jion_Wansu

It was blitz. People blunder in blitz

SmyslovFan

Once again, it wasn't blitz, it was rapid. Both players had 15 minutes for the entire game.

To me, it looks like the GM stepped on a mine and blew himself up. 15xx rated players can find a killer attack if it's served up to them on a silver platter.

It's been several months since this game was played. If there was anything suspicious about it, a complaint would have surfaced by now.
