If you want it to go main stream. you need ESPN to broadcast live tournaments in vegas where the winner recieve millions of dollars. Allow people to win entry by winning online tournaments. Will need a few GMs to go undercover and act like their a nobody that just got lucky and won and that anyone can do it..... or reinvent the game and take out some of the skill factor and add in more luck.... next thing you know we will have WORLD SERIES OF CHESS at the RIO live on ESPN!! then the government will come in shut down all US serving sites and conviscate all our moneys :D...

Jion_Wansu

yeah the government will shutdown ICC and such

Wrong.

Egotism makes you enjoy Chess.

Chess offers a prayer of smacking down puffed up idiots.

It works both ways probably.
Competitive games appeal to competitive people.
But competitive games can also make people more competitive.

Competitions have results.

In the case of Chess, far too often the result is exaggerating your successes.

"Chess is like a beautiful mistress that we always return to, no matter how many times she rejects us." -- Bent Larsen

Bring sex into it, and the public will be interested.

I think it's about time we put our heads together on how to create the much needed controversy for the chess world to get the exposure it deserves.

We'll accomplish it quite simply and there should be plenty pieces of the pie to go around for everyone who knows how to keep their head in the game and follow simple rules.

We simply approach this thing from a different angle, the unexpected one.

I'll form the committee and head up the council on the dangers of chess.

We tried giving the public awareness on the many benefits of chess.

They didn't respond the way they needed to.

So now instead of appealing to their desire for gain, we hit 'em where it hurts and go for the jugular with their fear of loss.

Of course, the threat is more dangerous than the execution in this case too, like so many others.

So with the dangers of chess in the public eye and mainstream media, we now need some chess experts to come in like knights in shining armour and set the record straight.

In the process, more people are exposed to all the original benefits we tried to spread the first time when they wouldn't give chess the time of day and so people who never would have listened before are now transformed into supporters of chess.

Impressive trolling

Danger #?  Chess will likely affect your mental acuity. Bobby Fisher famously appeared to lose sanity near the end of his career. Wilhelm Steinitz behaved outrageously and thought he could move chess pieces by telekinesis. Aron Nimzowitsch was paranoid. Alexander Alekhine suffered from anthrophobia. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov claimed he had been abducted by aliens in 1977.  Josh Waitskin who was on his way to become another Bobby Fisher abruptly stopped playing chess and decided to seriously peruse tae kwon do.

Poking in the eye with a bishop may be very dangerous.

Poking someone somewhere and especially in the eye is not a good attitude, moreover this is showing lack of maturity and wisdom.

Danger, chess is addictive and will lead to Dr shopping!

Danger, playing chess can lead to anger problems, which leads to crime!

Didn't some grandmaster die after a heart attack during the game when he had been playing chess for too long?

Also Steinitz, the first world champion died in poverty because there wasn't enough money in chess.

Chess can lead to insanity, like it did to Morphy and Fischer. Or to alcoholism: Alekhine, Korchnoï... To Casino blackjack cheating with cards guessing by calculation, hard drugs abuse, and get murdered for it like it happened with genius IM Gilles Andruet.

Digging a bit, I'm sure we'll find a few titled players who died from cancer, car accidents, etc.

Plus, if a chess players plays too much tennis, they'll get tennis elbow!

Ultimately, one can argue that every chess player on Earth, ends up dying.

Koltanowski's wife used to say

"I dont know how he does it. He can remember 64 random things placed on each square of the board and he does that knight's tour with ease but he can't remember to bring home a loaf of bread from the store."

Chess danger:

Faulty memory when it comes to feeding the mouths and pleasing the missy.
