It's a little last minute, but who would be up to play tomorrow (Sunday 8/1) at 3pm at the McDonald's on Foothill and Citrus in Fontana?

Skwerly

Hmmmmmm! I'll have to see how this morning and early afternoon goes… but this sounds fun! happy.png

mingussf

Skwerly, it might be just the two of us at this point, but that's fine by me.  Keep me posted as to whether this'll work out for you.

Skwerly

had a freaking sprinkler break on me so today is shot... of course.

mingussf

I don't envy you. Good luck with the fix!

Group, what do you all think about Sundays in the future at 3pm? I'm just putting a time out there so that we can set something up. I'm open to a different day/time as well.

Hi are you guys still meeting? I’m near La Verne off of the 210
wizardKM

Out of curiosity, why is that area referred to as the "Inland "Empire?? There was a mention of San Bernadino; always heard this was part of " the Valley", not some 'empire'...???...

I was never able to meet with anyone in the IE, and I found it hard to find clubs nearby.  Temecula has an active club, but I'm much closer to LA and OC living in Chino.  If you're looking for a club, you might find some through https://www.scchess.com/. I know there's one or two in Pasadena that meet weekly for rated USCF games.  I found one in OC that I've been playing in for about three months now, and it's a lot of fun.  If you're just looking for a casual game, hit me up some time.  I'm busy for the next couple of weeks, but I'll be on summer break soon and should be able to get a casual game in.

i moved to arizona so i guess the IE is out for me now.  grin.png

Hello, I live in Highland and would love to find a club to play some over-the-board games in. When I look on Google there are a bunch of fake clubs that pop up that don't even have an address or email. I am 12 years old by the way.

Hello everyone. We've actually organized a chess club that meets twice a month in Ontario California! If anyone is in the area, here is our online page for more information! Cucamonga Chess (Ontario, CA) | Meetup

I used to play chess at Back to The Grind in the early 2000s. I was a member of the old Riverside Chess Club in the 1970s, and two different Chess Clubs in San Bernardino. I moved to the High Desert a few years ago so I can't play OTB games with you. I am 15DogKnight here on chess.com. I will be pushing 70 years of age in a few months and am rated in the 1400-1500 range. I used to be 1963 USCF. I looked up some old members and everyone is 400-500 points lower rated now. Old age catches up with us all. Anand is the only 40+ player still playing relatively strong chess. GM Larry Christiansen, 3-time U.S. Champion, was among the many very strong members of our club. IM David J Strauss, California State Champion was another. Chess Life Magazine said we were the strongest club in the country back in the seventies, and that included the Manhatten and Marshall Chess Clubs!

I started a club for our former members. So far I'm the only "pawn left standing". frustrated

I also have a club for dog lovers who have a dog avatar. We are nearing 2,000 members:

Very cool stories! Thank you! I was listening to the Jeremy Silman memorial episode on the Perpetual Chess podcast, and they talk about the Southern California chess scene back then with Silman and Jack Peters as well. Sounded like a good time for chess here! Where are you in the high desert? I know there's a chess club in Lancaster, but I'm not sure how thriving it is.

I used to play at the Grind, are they still playing there Thursdays?
