*super secret achievement* killer king

Sort:
KnightGuy99

so a few days ago i was looking at some peoples stats and saw that they had an achievement called killer king. you have to checkmate someone with your king.

ParzivalTheGreat3

?

KnightGuy99

i think it means discovered check

KeSetoKaiba

What? Aw dang. Does unrated games count at least? This achievement sounds like an elusive one.

Yeah, it's for moving your king and getting a discovered checkmate.

I just got the achievement for "Killer King." happy.png I didn't even know it existed until this forum. The game wasn't the prettiest, but I got it by playing against a computer just so I could get the achievement. Even against a weaker-rated computer, a King checkmate was surprisingly difficult to set up. I have certainly gained even more appreciation for this checkmate in "real" games; King checkmate is even harder than I thought (and I thought it was tricky to set up before!).

I tried against a level 1 bot and realised the best way is to castle queenside and move ur king infrint of the rook, but even that doesn’t work
japhy1

the last move has to be the king, I achieved it by clearing the king from in front of a queen to cause checkmate

Does castling with checkmate earn you the "Killer King" achievement or is there another achievement specifically for that rare type of checkmate?

KnightGuy99

I also have an achievement for checkmating by castling.

Wait, what? Is that really a thing? Castling checkmate is so rare, chess.com actually has an achievement for this?

big_big_poo

Nah, it's cool - I believe you. I just played a weak computer and got the castling achievement now. (Took me two tries though lol - the first one I tried just doing it and dropped the needed Rook xD so in the second attempt I just traded into an endgame).

I don't know so many rules of chess.... even yesterday i understood first time, how to play rapid games !

Rapid games isn't really a "rules of chess" problem though - that is just learning chess.com formatting. Check out this forum just to make sure you know all of the rules of chess. Not knowing a rule like en passant as a beginner is so common, it is even meme caliber lol

I play chess as a hobby myself; no interest whatsoever in becoming a chess grandmaster - it isn't a dream of mine or anything. If I get that good at chess, then maybe I'll take that step, but I'm just trying to enjoy the game and learn happy.png

p.s. you don't need to seek grandmaster to know rules like castling or en passant though wink.png

Creating alternate chess.com accounts is against chess.com policies (with few exceptions for titled players or certified chess coaches etc. I think), so please don't even joke about such just to get a silly achievement - new chess.com members might take you seriously.
