IM Daniel Rensch is covering pawn structures in great detail in his video lectures on this site. Danny recommends reading Pawn Structure Chess by Andrew Soltis as part of my homework.

Well, Amazon only has one copy for sale: $135.87 USED! That's more than most college textbooks - and all college texbook prices are a rip off! 

Both Pawn Power In Chess by Hans Kmoch and Pawn Structure Chess by Andrew Soltis use descriptive chess notaion. I'd rather not read books in that format. I have My System by Aron Nimzovich and rarely read the book for that reason. 

Understanding Pawn Play in Chess by Drazen Marovic (Gambit) at Amazon is affordable at $18.21 NEW. Will this book serve as a good second best to Andrew Soltis? Does it use algebraic or descriptive chess notation? Any other books on pawn structure to recommend? Thanks. 

BTW - When I googled Pawn Structure Chess by Andrew Soltis there were many sites advertising free downloads in pdf. I wonder if this book is out of print and also free for the taking via a download?  Regardless, I'd rather have a hard copy for a reasonable price. I prefer words on paper over electronic text. I will never buy an iPad! 

Well, I'd imagine that it would be a lot cheaper to get a digital version of the book and then print it than to buy the copy on Amazon. Also, in case you're interested, there are newer editions of My System which have been translated to algebraic notation.

Great find goldendog! The book is like new with no markings and only 30 bucks + 4 for shipping. I just bought it.

I've heard too many good things about this book for too long. I'm surprised it has not been updated by some publisher with algebraic notation. I'm not aware of any other book on pawn structures that enjoys this level of praise.
