3D Chess Game

Hi, I downloaded the app called '3D Chess Game' from Microsoft store anyone has ideas on how strong its engine? Seem to be pretty weak for me.

I have often wondered why the Microsoft store does not have any version of ChessMaster (Microsoft themselves could edit the game code to solve compatibility problems) or Chess Titans.

I downloaded a 3D chess game on iOS as I was curious if the advances in graphics would make the experience more like playing on a physical board.

I would be interested to know what everyone else thinks about by how much 3D software bridges the gap between the 2D software and a physical chess setup - does it significantly solve the 2D problem people talk of or does it not make that much difference because it is still on a screen?

Thanks to the OP for the heads up. I’ll have a look. It doesn’t need to be strong to give me a work out.

I don’t think the 3D chess sets on 2d screens are able to replicate the feel of a physical board. It’s because in real life you look at the board and use your vision’s depth perception, can move your head, and move your eyes a certain way that is different from the screen. Personally I may prefer a physical board if there were people to play with but when I try a 3D board on a digital screen it’s worse than any flat 2d boards

I wonder if anyone has tried Chess Ultra with the Oculus Rift? One still wouldn’t achieve the feel of a physical board though I wonder what improvements using the setup would make in terms of naturally changing one’s perspective angle of the board during play?

In the mean time, I agree that 3D Chess is no compensation for a physical board.

I did like the approach of Lego Chess having both a 2D and 3D boards simultaneously on screen with lego men that would fidget occasionally when idle. It was just a shame the level system was based on age and assumed that kids would be really weak chess players.
