3D-Printed World Chess Travel Chess Set

Hi all,

A few days ago, I came across someone selling a set of 3D-printed World Chess Championship pieces on eBay with a king measuring 6cm (2.36”) height with a 2.5cm (~1”) base. I decided to buy it and paired the pieces with a 32cm  (12.6”) folding board I already had, creating a really nice travel set.

The pieces are solid, likely with 100% infill, and are felted with a lovely grey felt, making them enjoyable to play with. While there are minor imperfections due to the printing process not being done carefully, the pieces look much better than the original FIDE travel set. An added bonus is that this board sits completely flat, unlike the original, which often had issues.

Printing these pieces could be a great alternative for creating a travel set compared to the original.

Cheers!

As a side note, the position on the board is from Game 3 of the match between Gukesh and Ding.

This 3D-printed set looks quite clean like a minimalist one. Wondering if a complex design is also possible with a 3D printer like the knights of Napolean or American Staunton designs.

@larrywalker10 With the right 3d file, I believe it is possible to print some more detailed designs. See this one, for example: https://nolitto3d.com/cdn/shop/products/nolitto3d_chess_vinyl_chessboard4.jpg?v=1676817291&width=1206, and https://nolitto3d.com/cdn/shop/products/nolitto3d_chess_3knights.jpg?v=1677159727&width=1206

That's interesting @paulo_armi. So, I believe it's also possible to 3D print design details like those in themed sets or the designs representing ancient times.
