I used to have a small, cheap wooden imitation of this set back in the late 70s-early 80s. I like it, and I currently own the same board style that you have your set on. You have good taste.
ANOTHER...RARE CHESS PIECES

This is an interesting set. The knights look like they don't belong, but I love the pawns.
Here's a photo of a set my wife saw at an antiques store in Berlin last year (unfortunately, she didn't buy it for me) - not a very good pic, but you can still see a lot of similar design elements, and it seems to be very much a related design similar to the set you showed above, except that the knights are completely different...

Nice looking set. The meager responses is because most people have never seen these sets before now..!

Here's an ebay listing w/ another variation of this set, also w/ knights similar to the ones in my pic above:

Not the same as your set, but clearly related.

FrankHelwig, the set in Berlin that your wife didn't buy for you is the same of the auction in ebay.
I Know very well the set in ebay, but the Khight is ugly, (for me) and above all, the white pices are browne (not antiqued!) and black ones -Brown darker,. The contrast in chesboard is horrible, and almost no diference between the pieces!
"The knights look like they don't belong" IN THE MOUCHE! The Knight well carved is something distant from the general design. I will make a pic with another knight to see the diference!
The base os my post is that: This set, and the ebay set are inspired in the set very very rare of Chess Tournament of Las Palmas in 70-80! And the pieces t of pictures was made in 20-30 copies, and is a dream chess for me!
Andy Richter: viewed in this way: Yes, very erotic ! By clinical point of view: like a suppository...ando so on. (ah! ah!)

A little trick ...
I stole the Knights from another pieces and the set became more beautiful, more like the game of Las Palmas!

Yes, that works! Big difference. I think that style of knights looks much better with that particular set.

Although this has little acceptance by the meager responses in chess Forum "Books and Equipment".
Despite my requests for help here have not had any return...
Another one of my collection...
Well...The design Inspiration from this chess set was the Las Palmas Set, that i put in another post.
This set is a german set "Ulbrich" or "Weible" I don't know rightly, but are not manufactured anymore, hence their rarity.
This set is strangely beautiful, with superb elegance and remarkable balance and proportions of the chess pieces.
The Bishops and pawns are the tradmark of this set (like the Las Palmas set!). The imponent pawn ( like the pawns of East chess pieces - URSS, Czechs...) is amazing in its design - The Pawn the soul of chess?
The Knight is "Skinny" but well carved, the Bishop has personality, and the Queen is very marked.
I love this set. Not oftem seen, and barely sold in ebay. No chessshop in the world now sold this set even in Germany.
lucky me!
Enjoy!
