I am current 1200ish fide rated player and I am looking for systematic training program and found ICS Grandmaster Package. So should I go for it. Any opinion about it

ABOUT PACKAGE

No, not all chess lessons are the same. Many chess enthusiasts study chess books of all kinds, but again, very few became chess masters. Why is that? It is because the chess lessons - exactly WHAT you learn makes the difference between success and failure.

Even if you have studied other materials on a certain subject, in our lessons you will discover UNIQUE elements and theory which will make an important difference in your games.

Grandmaster Package includes top-quality chess training in:

  • Complete, advanced chess strategy;
  • Thinking process: You will learn to Think Like a Strong Player;
  • Board visualization - importance, training, technique;
  • The art of analysis - in the spirit of Botvinnik / Russian chess school;
  • Positional chess exercises and strategy tests - unique ICS training;
  • Technique - how to win a "winning position", how to save bad positions;
  • Winning chess plans in all typical positions;
  • What to really look for in any position on the board;
  • Essential lessons in tactics and calculation;
  • Grandmaster games with instructive annotations.

Moreover, the Grandmaster Package includes over 12 hours of video lectures as bonus material to help you understand the theoretical subjects more easily and deeply.

I have the GM Package.  I have browsed through it and it seems decent, but the language barrier creates some rough reading at times.  Now do i think it worth the money?  Not sure since i havent really delved into it.

Google "ICS chess forum"... I have the whole gm package course and it is very good but also challenging and time consuming. It is recommended for 1700 upwards, if you are under that then you should probably read HTRYC4th ed. by Silman, some basic endgame book and some tactics book first.

You say you are rated 1200ish fide but your chess.com rapid is 1700+....to me that's allways meant ~1600 fide, not as low as 1200...I would go for ICS if I was you. Especially if you don't mind a little bit of academia and harder chess study materials.

I played only 2 rated tourney so low rating would you recommend me to invest in this stuff

Rating is one thing, you could have rating 1200 and still have a 1700 chess strenght...it takes time and many rated games to get the rating up to where it should be in your case. I recommend ICS to more or less everybody, the materials are VERY GOOD and eye opening...but it's also quite hard material, it shouldnt be your first time studying chess, and there is A LOT of study material in this course, so be prepared to work 12hrs /week on this. I know a few people who got from 1600 to 1900 after studying only the first 4 months of this course...

I bought this program over 6 years ago.  I have found the advice to be very good.  In fact some of the "newer" GM instructions like Igor Smirnov are saying very similar to the same things as they have.

I recently felt the need to go over this program again.  Well, since I bought it the first time, I now have access to it forever.  So I am going through it again at no charge.

They have theory and practice and they have the materials structured to be done routinely over the year.

Yes, I heartily suggest this program to anyone that wants to study and get better.

I am a student and bought the GM package - I have all of the months.

My review:

Amazing and high quality material but requires serious CONSISTANT study.

I can't give it the undivided attention at the moment so I'm saving it for a few years when I am 2200+ or so.

(Yes it is good enough for masters too!)

I bought it back when I was getting whatever I could on chess ... it looks good, but is way advanced for 1200 players. If there is a good way for players like that (like me) to learn from such advanced material, please let me know.

I know this is an older post  but I will reply in case its a helpful thought .. and maybe to others that are in a similar position ..

   What you should do is make your own course by using the outline of the course you bought . So very simplistic example, they have you solve a puzzle on position, its too difficult but in your newly made weaker package version , you would have a puzzle that is easier one you can solve .maybe annotated puzzles to mimic advice about each problem you solve ..

 So basically make a simpler watered down version on each topic in the package try and set it up similar , it may not be the best but it should strengthen many of the areas that are weak so maybe after when you look at it again you may understand it better maybe enough to do it ..if not rinse repeat .  Good luck.

Is this program good for a beginner or is this more for intermediate/advanced players?

I missed that part about it being too advanced thanks for pointing it out.  So is there anything like this for beginner players?
