Anyone know what this chess set is?

Hi guys, I've come in possession of a strange chess set that I can't identify.  I'm a chess fan, enjoy playing every now and then, but I'm not a collector or even an amateur observer of chess sets.

I was hoping someone here with a greater understanding of what I have could help me identify it, or at least point me in the direction of someone who could.  Thanks in advance for any help (pictures attached below):

Schachmonkey
It look like its replicating a motif from the Inca Maya or Aztec beyond that... Is it clay?

Wood, not clay.

Another Q ... Is the board PRINTED (as in, it looks like there might have been hundreds of identical boards made) or is it PAINTED (as in, you can tell that it was colored and inked by hand)? (or might it be that the black was printed and then the rest of the colors were painted?) What's the board on? What's the backing, material, etc.? Thanks, I have a hunch ...

I had one very similar, almost identical, but a bit smaller, on a round folding board. It was a gift by a Peruvian friend. Incas vs. conquistadors.
