Anyone tried the German Knight Plastic Chess set from TheChessStore?

I'm looking for a decent plastic set and kind of dig the looks of the German Knight Plastic Chess Set Black & Aged Ivory Pieces - 3.9" King from TheChessStore.com.

Has anyone tried this? The reviews on the website are not for that item so it's hard to tell. I'm tired of the House of Staunton Triple weighted pieces losing weights. They are garbage and since all those sets look the same I wonder if they're all made by the same company and will all have problems.

Yes and I like the set. If the DGT plastic set and the German Knight set got together and made a baby. This is what the set looks like. My only beef with the set and the DGT plastic set is the Pawn's base is a bit too small. Has a top heavy feel but it is still playable. Just needs to be a bit wider on the base. Other than that the set is great. It has felt paper bottoms but the felt paper is quite good and the best I have seen.

I just received a different version of The Chess Store's German Knight set, the "German Knight Plastic Chess Set Brown & Natural Wood Grain Pieces." While I've always been pleased dealing with this vendor, I was disappointed in the King. Any other picture I've seen of a German Knight set, and they all seem to differ somewhat, had a standard cross on the king. This one is a cylindrical configuration. I fault myself for not inspecting the pictures more carefully. The inexpensive (cardboard) box that came with was nice.

Yeah I don't particularly care for a fancy cross on top but that cylinder looks kind of dumb.

I actually like the King's finial. It's not the only King that has the cylinder finial.

Could it be that this type of chess piece set with a cylindrical "non-cross" finial on the Staunton style King was meant for a market/country with a predominantly non-Christian population? Just wondering out loud.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the King finial either. Not because it's missing a cross specifically, (the King piece of the Dubrovnik set does not have a cross either, and I'm a big fan of the Dubronik) but because knowing how wood King pieces are carved on the lathe, it looks like a mistake. As mentioned above, two parallel vertical cuts as a final step, turns that round Lego finial into a cross on wood sets.
