Hi Sam
I haven't noticed any tutorials, but then I haven't looked very hard. The Arena help file isn't too bad, though.
For the first question, to keep the evaluation from flip-flopping, try this: In the menu, go to Options, Appearance, Other settings. Then find the check box for "Values always from white's point of view", and click the box to activate the setting.
The second question: It sounds like you're using the default setting for a single principal variation. Each analysis line is a different ply search, and it's probably just a coincidence that all the ply searches start with the same move. I think you're wanting to switch to multi-pv mode. Go into the engine configuration and change the MultiPV setting from 1 to a higher number.
I've just installed the Arena GUI and am trying to use it to analyse my games. So far I've found it difficult to use. Does anyone know of any tutorials?
If there are no tutorials then maybe somebody would be able to answer 2 specific questions i have. I have got as far as installing stockfish and loading in a PGN but it is doing a few funny things when I start the analysis. Firstly it changes the symbol of the evaluation depending on whose go it is i.e. if it is black to move it evaluates it as +2 and then if i follow it's mainline reccomendation it will immeadiately change to -2 when it is white to move. Also I would like it to display the candidate moves in order with their evaluations but at the moment it displays different variations all starting with the same first move....
Anyway if anybody can help it would be much appreciated. thanks for your time
Sam
