I found this neat Art Deco chess set at the local Goodwill for $8. It was put out by Fame USA Products in (I think) the 1990s.
I had checked the condition in the store, and everything looked good at first glance. However, once I got it home and opened it again, I found that one of the bishops had lost his head (presumably in battle):
Luckily, I found that Chesshouse had a few replacement pieces available for this very same set. I don't know what the odds were that they would have this exact set. I'm sure it was common back in the day, but I've never seen it before. After $7.50 (including shipping) and a week, I got the replacement piece in the mail, good as new. I've now ordered replacement pieces from Chesshouse a couple of times, and have always had a good experience with them.
