Best book for intermediate players

An outstanding intermediate book is Simple Chess, New Algebraic Edition by Michael Stean. A good introduction to strategy. 160 pages of clear explanations and large diagrams. Do not confuse it with another book of the same name by another author ( believe it was Eamms ). It emhasizes outposts and file control and is the book to read after your first book on tactics. Might be classified as early-intermediate but is considered a classic.
