Best Book

I think that depends upon what part of your game you want to improve. Chess is a logical game that depends upon your ability. In other words, you have to analyze your personal strenghts and weaknesses to figure out where you need to improve.

I agree with Scar... that question alone is so subjective... I will tell you what books to stay away from! lol.
I generally don't like anything published by Fireside Library. When you are just starting chess, the tendency is to buy a bunch of books. I'm going to tell you now, I have so many books that I've never finished. Just get one or two max at a time and finish them first. You should check out some at the library first to see if you like certain authors before buying though. Like for me, I like Silman's books, but I'm not a fan of anything by Pandolfini, the celebrity teacher.

One guy here claimed to have a shelf full of the best books but he also thought that 2 bishops were the equal of a queen.
Some people aren't ready for books, or learning for that matter.

To be honest, of the 10 or so chess books that I have, I've never actually read through them all from cover to cover. I just kind of go through them and pick out what I think is important. Most of them were dissapointing. I've probably learned more from reading articles, blogs, and various forums here on the internet. Chesscafe.com has a lot of articles by master players and they are all archived. And of course there are a lot of resources here too at Chess.com.

a chess player told me to stay out of them books they will confuse you
Your posts are what confuses me.
But let's try -- what sort of book are you looking for? Have you read any already?

Look for a tactics puzzle book. Find one of the modern ones that have been checked by computer for errors. I prefer tactics training on the computer, but if you have some spare time without being near a computer, a tactics book is the way to go.

What about puzzle books like white to move and mate in two will those type of books help my game, if so how much time i should spend on a puzzle

That's the same thing as tactics. However, it's best to get puzzles without clues (like "mate in two"). I'd say if you can't get a puzzle in ten minutes, look at the answer and move on.

I don't think you can go wrong with an annotated collection of games aimed at the intermediate player. The sheer beauty of some of the games, and reading a master's thoughts on the game is priceless to me. I recommend Steve Giddens two books: 50 Essential Chess Lessons....and..umm...that other one that I haven't gotten to yet.

The Book that helped me the most was a an inexpensive little book called "How to play the Chess Openings" By Eugene Znosko-Borovsky
He was a Russian Grand Master from the early1900's that had a gift for taking a Complicated Precept and presenting it with incredible Clarity. His writing style was very lucid.
"It is not a move, even the best move, that you must seek, but a realisable plan."... E.A. Znosko-Borovsky
