I really like chessmaster 10 (got it at office max for only $10) It has alot of lessons, computer opponents and decent analysis of games. Great for a novice like myself.
Best chess games for PC?

yea, you can never go wrong with chessmaster. fritz (far better for serious players) is my favorite but i'll always love the chessmaster series. great program with a lot to offer. :) also, very cheap.

One is the brand:
Fritz by chessbase with free playchess server months. 20 minute video clips on certain aspects of chess by profesionals such as kasparov, ect.
I use Lucas Chess on Windows and GNUChess (level 1) under GNU/Linux.
Lucas Chess has also other nice things, to learn tactics, etc.

I must say, this is pretty good, lots of training stuff, some of it quite challenging.

Stone Chess v1.01 is very beautiful chess game.
