Tarrasch has a clean look but is very dificultt to use! I try to install a new engine and  I cant do it, despite several minutes  trying........ Arena is very dificult to use but I can instal a new engine in it in 5 seconds...

I have to disagree here.  Installing an engine in Tarrasch is simplicity itself and every bit as simple as installing in Arena.

Reviving old threads doesn't make any sense but, winboard and scid is better.

The good chessGUIs are ArenaChess, SCID vs PC and ChessGUI 0.245m (when you know how to use it).

In the years this post has been running, the Tarrasch Chess GUI has improved dramatically. If you tried it before 2017, please consider trying it again, you might be pleasantly surprised. Bill Forster (author of the Tarrasch Chess GUI www.triplehappy.com)

The Tarrash chess GUI is a very good option.

Atharva_Tomar

chessbase 14 is also the best

Everything looks so quiet in the Chess GUI landscape. So little change in so many years.

What do you mean? New versions of the GUIs continue to be released. There's now an Arena for Linux. :-) Also, there's the Banksia GUI being developed. It's still a little rough, but the developer is constantly working on it.

JogoReal

Arena last updated 5 or 6 years ago. Banksia GUI is tailored for engine vs. engine games so, same as Arena (replacing candidate), but with less features.

Arena for Windows, yes - 5 years.

Arena for Linux - 1 year. (And I'm happy about this, since I'm now on Linux.) :-)))))

And don't forget, the guys who work on Arena do it in their spare time. They get no money from Arena.

Which one is your version of Linux, if you don't mind answering that here?

I use Linux Mint, but since Arena for Linux is just a binary file, I imagine just about any 64-bit Linux would run it.

JogoReal

Linux Mint can run Scid too, or not? Scid much feature rich than Arena, I presume.

Yeah, it can also run Scid and Scid vs. PC. However, the only problem with Linux chess GUIs is that the engines also have to be compiled for Linux, and there aren't as many Linux engines as Windows engines.

Shredder Chess has a Linux version, as far as I know.
