Black and white/yellow pieces are BCSE, red and ivory/yellow pieces are CS. Both sets w 4 inch/100 mm king height.

It’s rather interesting. I have what I believe are the Best Chessmen Ever Brand - single weighted Tournament Edition with the back to front queens gambit silicone board. I say ‘believe’ as I got mine second-hand via a local find - so no box. I could be wrong. Here’s my bishops - and the design (not just the colour) looks markedly different to yours?

Definitely different. But I´ve never seen any of the single weighted BCSE-sets so I don´t know. But different they are.

Actually I see 4 different versions on Amazon right now.

I can see both shapes of bishops there, but I do notice that the images are inconsistent, meaning I can see 3 different shapes for a single version.

Ha! https://www.bestchesssetever.com

I’m confident, albeit without a box or a receipt, that I have the ‘limited edition’ - queens gambit version which … has an odd silicone board. I noted that when I saw it - didn’t like it and promptly removed the problem by cutting the edges off the board. Now I have a better looking board and a nice, playable plastic set for next to nothing … fun stuff.

I also see this version on Amazon. Look at the knight's mane, and rooks. This may even be another version but I don't see this one on the BCSE website.

I don’t want to hijack thread … sorry. 🤦‍♂️ See post #54 and #55 in this thread:https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/plastic-not-fantastic?page=3

That shows more detail of whatever version I have.

They are making a fair spread to keep to the promise of their brand … best chess set ever … pick one of x versions and that’ll be the best?! Promise! 😂😆🤦‍♂️

I remember wanting to get a good n heavy plastic chess set for a 'knock around' set and looked into the BCSE brand, I remember looking are YTube reviews and many looked different from each other. That was around the time I found that $25 wood set, which I ended buying 3 of those sets and one of them is my dedicated 'knock around' set.

So I guess back to the OP, @hermanjohnell, This is the BCSE 4X vs HoS CS

I agree. The HoS Collector Series is the most classic and elegant design ever. I own it myself. I also own and like the 2014 Sinqufield cup set.

'Crafted to replicate the design and proportions of the original Staunton pattern Chessmen, registered by Nathaniel Cooke in March of 1849 and first manufactured by Jaques of London in September 1849''

The Collector Series Plastic Chessmen - 4.0 King (houseofstaunton.com)

Well, regardless what other designs that are sold under the BCSE moniker the one I bought is extremely similar to the HoS CS so it to must be modeled on the 1849 Jaques Staunton design. Both sets (BCSE 4X and HoS CS 4``) are heavily weigted, seemingly made of the same kind of plastic and equally well made.

My favourite plastic chess set is this one:

Although I would have preferred the king's cross to be slightly larger.
