Best chess set for under $300usd.

Hey @oPAWNo,
I am sure you’ll garner lots of differing thoughts.
To start, my ‘current’ favourite would be Biro Sandor’s Romanian Hungarian set which is under USD $200 - here’s a thread on those pieces - it started with my buying a copy and then buying pieces directly from Mr Sandor. Wonderful.

Of further interest may be this Five Knights thread - every set therein was purchased for under USD$300 and most for under USD$200 and some for much less than that.

I hope that helps. 👍

I agree 100% with @Powerdigit - for the money, the Biro Sandor set is an incredible value. You are buying a set crafted in excellent quality wood, directly from a European International Master.
The alternative is to spend the same amount of money for a decent set made in India, where you can be almost assured that the poor craftsman who actually made your set is likely receiving a fraction of the price paid. For me, it’s a no brainer!

How could I overlook Incaisa! My set is about to be shipped, if you prefer smaller rooks (I asked him for smaller ones first, then Sumos later if needed):
I'm all in for the Peru Incaisa Alpha Sumo set. Mine arrived today. Absolutely beautiful and an incredible value. A true heirloom set. Dener Requejo Mejia is the man. I haven't bought a new chess set in many years and I couldn't be happier with this one. Those oversized rooks hold down the corners of the board like the corners of a fortress!

Hey I didn't get an Incaisa certificate with my Alpha Sumo set! LOL I guess at the time, it was a one-time, custom set. Not an official product "series."
@oldquaker Mail that certificate over if you want me to sign it as co-creator. Haha!

@Pawnerai You deserve a plaque similar to the HoS brass plaques that says serial number 1 on it since you helped bring this Apha Sumo version to life.
